And I thought "Oh gawd, another"? And then I watched the trailer, and I thought "this looks so fake, so impossible, and like a bad movie in general. Why do I want to see it so bad? Oh well, I'll wait til it comes out on video." And then the trailer ended, and I saw a Jensen Interceptor. OK, I think I want to see it in theaters now, no matter how bad it is.
They are a guilty pleasure. I've seen all of them in the theater.
I liked 5. Need to get it on dvd at some point. Just to make sure my collection is complete.
Last one i saw in theaters was 4.
I heard they made a sequel to the original. They're up to 6? Really?
LOL. I watched the trailer online with my wife. We both agreed it looked like fun.

I think they made a pretty good transition from car culture movies to regular action movies. I like them. I also like all the Rambos, lethal Weapons, and Die Hards when it comes time for a dumb action flick. None of those are realistic in the slightest or making some sort of deep commentary on the treatment of underprivileged short order cooks in Barbados. They are supposed to be big dumb fun and I love them for it. If I wanted a thinking movie I would watch something in black&white with subtitles and French people.
Basically.....I cant wait!
this thing should be interesting

Until one of the front tires blows and lands in the face of a passenger. No, wait. That SHOULD be interesting.

Same. I refuse to believe that an Alpha can bring down a cargo plane, but it looks amazing. Silly, but amazing.

They remind me of the red cars from freejack...same purpose, too. (wedge to flip the opposition)

I've seen them all in the theatre. I own all of the currently released ones on DVD/Blu Ray. I don't care how bad they are and how much I hate Paul Walker- they're a good time.

Yes. What this guy said. I get enough real life in my real life. Sometimes stupid is fun.
If we wanted all of our movies to be more like real life then porn would be excruciatingly boring. I don't want to watch an overweight, middle-aged couple in the missionary position under the sheets going "Oh yeah, oh yeah... hey, did you leave the garage door open? Oh yeah... mmm... yeah. Ow, you're on my hair"

Yes JG is correct. Some forget why movies became so popular in the first place, they were an escape from reality.
the only part of any of those movies that matters is the first 5 minutes of the Tokyo one..
My girlfriend is much more interested in this thing than I am, but I recognized the Interceptor and hope it might not be horrible to watch.

the Monte in the beginning of the Tokyo one showed more acting range and had better lines than anyone in the whole rest of the series.. well, to be fair, i never saw the last one, but i can't imagine The Rock bringing too much to the table..

Yup.
Gratuitous fun is fun. Only ones that irk me are when they can't decide if they're making their movie serious and gritty, or escapist action. (E.g. the latest Bond Film)
I watched a mini documentary where they were talking about the "Flip Car" pictured above. Apparently, all they had to do was add on one additional flip rail on that car, and... well... all the cop cars and stuff it flips over in the movie? Are actually being flipped over. No CG. 100% pure real idiots crashing real cars for reals yo.
I have a similar argument with a guy at work about TROPIC THUNDER. He thinks it's stupid, and I say it's supposed to be!

it's also racist.. but it's supposed to be..
Saw the trailer last night, too. My exact words to my wife were: "oh look a Jensen Interceptor. What? They've made six of these things!!?"

That's probably this one (which I linked to earlier in this thread.)

And that's the point. They know that a Jensen and a vintage escort will catch your attention. They know that explode-ifying flashing lights will get the general populace to notice the movie.
....and most importantly, they know that anyone lured into the theater by the trailer will be will be looking for a silly summer action flick. If they deliver that, they have succeeded.
Ooooh. A car that flips other cars! Welcome back to the 1970s.
If he'd been able to finish Deadline Auto (I think that was the title) before being killed, we'd all have built plastic models of this thing as kids.
