Finally going to New York this weekend to adopt a DSM. Anybody have any recommendations on things I should make a point to see/do Between Bowling Green and Schenectady? I'll be driving up Friday and coming back Saturday.

What's a DSM?
New York State Museum in Albany (downtown) is nice, especially if you have kids with you. If you're staying overnight, check for concerts at the Palace theater, Troy, and The Egg. $5 per person or $10 per family.
Depending on your route...the Baseball Hall of Fame is in Cooperstown is 90 minutes west of Albany. Cool to see if you're a baseball fan.
There's an auto museum in Saratoga (40 minutes north of Albany). I've never been, but probably worth checking out. They're open Wednesday - Sunday. http://www.saratogaautomuseum.org/

Not going to be much time to do anything in a turnaround trip of that length...
EDIT: Z31 beat me.
As you come through Cleveland you would be about a hour away from me so I would typically be on stand-by for your safe passage, but... I too will be on the road most of the weekend.
15+ hours on the road each way (some time given for stops and reduced speeds of towing) is not going to leave for "sightseeing." If anything, you might ask, "where are the best rest stops to nap?"
In other news. the temps are expected to increase this weekend. The current Cleveland forecast is:
Fri: 35/23 Mostly cloudy
Sat: 43/41 Some Sun
These are a lift over our recent like todays 23/17. Still, be prepared for cold if you end up road-side.
What are you driving? Truck and empty trailer?
If you decide to cut through PA instead of following the lake and need to crash on the return trip, there's room here.
If hauling a trailer, your toll road fees will be much higher. Either way you miss tolls in Ohio. It looks like New York State is where you incur tolls on the shortest route.
Here are your options toll free.
Tolls suck with a trailer, go the northern route. I’ll be around, you’d pass about 10 minutes from me
Check the weather closely. Lake effect snow in western NY can be brutal. Traffic in Pittsburg can also be brutal.
I've taken all those routes. Take the northern one!
Pack extra tools and warm clothes, that's a helluva haul on the equipment in the cold and being stranded on the roadside sucks. Good luck!
Upon further consideration, I've got Thursday off too and already reserved the rental trailer for tomorrow so I could leave early Friday morning, so I'll probably leave out Thursday night instead.
If you need anything on the New York side I live about 20 miles west of Schenectady and will be around this weekend. Having commuted across NY for work a bunch I would recommend avoiding RT 90 and using 88 / 86 if you are going to stick north. The traffic on 90 sucks with a trailer and it will be expensive as hell to drive on a crappy road. 88 / 86 is crappy and free.
Sorry, Rt 81 at night and you're dancing with the truckers in the dark with no services.
I'm 20 miles from Schenectady, if you get stuck or lost, gimme a call.

Where is all this heavy traffic on 90 ? Parts of 88 are so bad everybody drives in the left lane.
I am 4 miles north of 90 maybe 20 miles west of of Schenectady..
I once pulled a trailer from home to Niagara Falls/Canada and back with no problem at all.

Oh God, another Teds Fish Fry fan. My wife thinks it’s the greatest place up there. Since he’s going to be in Schenectady already I was going to suggest Morrettes for a steak sandwich https://m.facebook.com/morrettes/.
The state museum is nice but I don’t know where you’d park a trailer there. I’d also look to avoid the thruway and take 81 or 86. The Saratoga auto museum is a bit beyond where your going but is a nice stop for a little while in a beautiful area.
Yeah I'll take notes from this thread but the trip got cancelled when I found myself skidding to a stop in field in a busted up Honda last night.
You'll need to log in to post.
