Spray bombed the E30 last night (the old paint was crazing right off the car and it needs some corrosion resistance)
well, rustolieum says royal blue on the can... BULLE36 M3! it should say SMURF blue
im thinking about trying to do the gulf scheme at some point to kinda save it. (im gonna repaint it and do a better job in the summer)
at current the hood is flat black, and the bumpers are black and chromeish...
thoughts?
"Royal Blue" is pretty Smurfy. Smurfy as in looks like a Smurf; not Smurfy as in "Papa Smurf says 'It would be Smurfy if you didn't Smurf up the color of your E30, mothersmurfer!.'"
Were you going for the "Gulf Blue" look?
Yeah...I'd call the BMW in the picture more of a "Baby Blue" or "Robin's egg blue." Sorry it didn't come out the way you want...but it still looks good to me!

Incidentally, Ford loved that color in the early '80s. I've personally owned at least two ford products that were about this color (like my F350 in the readers' rides). And I've seen thousands...

I think im gonna just go gloss black this summer... I really thought royal blue was darker then that.
more along the lines of this
So when you choke a Smurf, what color does he turn?
Folks over at the 914 Board say the "official" colors are Gulf Blue, Porsche 1973, Code 328 or J9.
The orange is 1972 - 73 Porsche code 019. The trim between the two colors that looks like black is actually a cobalt blue.
Go to a model car site, they get pretty anal about being correct.

i dunno, but they always say if you do it too much, you'll go blind
I think "choke a Smurf" might be the most off-color thing ever said on the message board.
Oddly enough, I think we used "Smurfing" in the April issue of GRM. Be the first in your neighborhood to spot it! (Hint: it's a replacement for a naughty four-letter word in a quote.)
well i'll do that just as soon as you send it to me.
and btw, i sent an email regarding my sub, and the sub that came with my NASA membership, and haven't heard anything back
Smurf has been the dirty-word-replacement on my guitar board since dinosaurs ruled the earth (and played big hollow guitars)
I almost painted the challenger that color this year. I even bought a can. The only thing that saved me was the online demo on how to paint your miata with Rustoleum. He used the color and it came out light blue. Definitely NOT what is on the label.

exactly what i used... in spray cans... (dont worry, the paint under this is HIDEOUS)
well, i unmasked it and its not quite as bad as i feared..

Does rustoleum make a colour that is close to the robin's egg blue of the gulf cars? How about the orange?
and YES, before anyone says it... I REMOVED ALL THE PAINTERS TAPE

Well, they make white, just mix some in and see what you get.
You will want to mix more than you need if you ever want to do touchups, but you can also pretty much make any color you want.
It looks like the same color blue as in the BMW propeller.
I say you divide the car into four sections, paint two white and two blue, so that from above it looks like the bimmer emblem.
