since they gave me the day off work paid, i decided to do nothing... then i found this for sale on facebook 25 miles from me and figured it was worth the drive for the $10 the guy was asking:

seems to be a consistent .010" off, so i just gotta calibrate it.. happy birthday to me...

side note: anyone know anything about the Tubular Micrometer Company and the quality of their tools? i know it's somewhat local to me but that's about it.. i'd never heard of it until i saw the ad for this..
