According to Foxnews.com, we just launched 114 cruise missiles against Libia. What are those? Like 10 mil each? So, did we just shoot a billion dollars at Libia because the "president" or Colonel or whatever of Libia wants to keep the party going? Meanwhile, our president is down in Rio partying himself.

On the positive side, the French, while waiting to surrender, are rumored to have taken their aircraft out of mothballs to go do a flyover now that our 114 cruise missiles have taken out all the air defenses.

I wonder what the Bush haters have to say about the USAs involvement in war now.

So, we have a Nobel Peace Prize winning President who is now involved in three wars. I bet the world feels safer.

Now, now... we all know Bush is the war monger. The O could never be such. Why, he's... The Change.

Funny.... Shrub refused to get involved in Darfur no matter how much the world press screamed. But The O authorizes cruise missiles against Gaddhafi.

On a more serious note: it's long past time for us to quit being the World Police. Every time some tinpot dictator pops up on the mass hysteria, er, media's radar they start hollering we need to go fix it. So let me see: we were expected to 'fix' Somalia (and it looks like we will be 'fixing' the pirate situation). We were expected to 'fix' Saddam and we are still there (and will be no matter how much the O bleats). We were expected to 'fix' Afghanistan (after the Russians got their asses handed to them but that's another story). We will be there for a while yet. We were expected to 'fix' the Indian Ocean tsunami damage. Now we are expected to 'fix' Japan's tsunami damage and at the same time punt Gaddhafi out of power. Sorry folks, there's only so much US taxpayer to go around.

The best part of this so far: CNN kept playing a clip of some alleged Libyan firing an RPG. The guy never stopped to consider how powerful those things are, didn't get in proper firing position and wound up with his feet sticking up in the air.

I was really hoping the US would stay out of this. I didn't want to see so much as a bottle of water go to Libya without a formal invite. I just hope we keep our involvement as minimal as possible.

Oh hess you're so cute when you're angry. Love your clever little quips, as always. "Keep the party going"? That's such a great way to describe mass murder. It makes it sound much less harmful. Oh, how fun!

Also, is misspelling Libya an intentional little clever jab of some sort, or was that one just an honest mistake?

I would just like to congratulate Dr. Hess on an entirely reasonable post (he didn't say "the O" or nuttin'). Well done sir. (OK, the Rio comment was a bit much, but hey, he's trying right?)

One way to look at the cruise missiles is: They are already payed for, so if you don't use them, then it's wasted money (of course they are likely to buy more). Besides, these are probably sub-launched right? I mean really, what else do those guys have to do these days?

They're about $575K each I believe. Not all were fired by US forces.

Like Fox News, but better. :)

At least it can be another undeclared war. Way to go Congress! Abdicate your responsibilities! It's half way through the year and they still haven't passed a budget. They apparently are not needed to bomb somebody - we have the UN there to tell our Pres who to bomb.

This sucks.

I had one chocolate chip cookie at a neighborhood party. But my leg was cramping up so I had to leave. I ran 10 miles today. You know what that means!

Dr Hess: Washington post:

And it was initiated by the French, who famously opposed the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

It was French President Nicolas Sarkozy who announced that 22 participants in an emergency summit in Paris on Saturday had agreed to launch armed action against Gadhafi’s military. And a French fighter jet reported the first strike Saturday afternoon, against a Libyan military vehicle in or near Benghazi, the heart of the uprising against the longtime leader, before over a hundred cruise missiles fired from U.S and British ships slammed into this north African nation.

And Curmudgeon- If not us, whom? If not for citizens trying to oust a murderous dictator, then why not just decommision the military and bury our heads in the sand?

Actually, I'm glad he's down there. That country is going to be one hell of a gigantic market for the us in the next few years. We need his help to cut through the ton of beaucracy down there. West Africa is already being bought up by chinese investors, so we need to move to places where they are none too kind to China.

It was something Bush really didn't know how to do, you know.. Grow an economy...

Also.. Hess.. Cruise missiles are way less than $10M a pop. Less than $1M a pop. They're like $500k.. http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_display.asp?cid=2200&tid=1300&ct=2

While that is still a ton of money, I only point it out because your track record stating with "facts" needs to be maintained. Google woulda helped you out there..

Ehh,, You didn't have endure the years of his "Next War" thread. It was filled with "Intelligence" about some supposed war with Iran that was to happen. However, Hess got it wrong. Again.
