Tomorrow Simply Clean is hosting a big car show aimed at the stance crowd and tonight the pre-meet took place at Complete Custom Wheels, two blocks south of GRM HQ. It was awful, I tell you. I saw lots of young people talking about cars, hanging out, taking pictures and enjoying a nice evening. Some were even eating BBQ. I saw a few tattoos, too.
And for the old-school crowd:
If I was a chiropractor, I'd be at this thing handing out cards.
As for the whole "stanced" thing, it doesn't suit my taste, but its certainly no worse than neons and giant 500lb sub enclosures.

There are a few stance kids in the local rotary engine car club. They make me cringe sometimes, but I'm absolutely sure I make them cringe, too. Two of them helped me get the replacement engine into my RX-8 in exchange for some knowledge transfer, so yeah, they're car guys, too.
I am still waiting for somebody besides King Springs to offer a higher rate on stock height springs.

Now that you guys mention it, no, the place wasn't overrun with neck tats or skinny jeans. To be honest, it looked a lot like the typical autocross crowd but with more women and little kids present.

We look at stance bois like we do a younger brother. Rough around the edges, a little dumb, but in the end, they're car guys. Our brothers.

(sarcasm) There are way too many pairs of skinny jeans at autocross's. But the neck tats are usually reserved for Mustang owners. (/sarcasm)

That FRS rocket bunny kit, om nom nom. Now I wish I bought an FRS instead of the MS3, sort of.
I'm not a huge fan of stance probably because I really don't like the whole tire stretching thing though some of them have really good taste in wheels. It always seemed like more of a new school low rider type deal than a performance based take which this board prefers. Different strokes for different folks. As long as it isn't unsafe for those around you follow your dream I guess.
i don't think i'd be able to walk thru there without asking the owner of every car if they knew that their upper balljoints were broken..
Well, the nice thing is that it keeps them out of trouble. You drive most of those cars at any kind of speed on anything but a salt lake, you are asking for trouble. More art pieces then cars really.
It is funny how a "look" that was for a purpose gets taken an absurd extreme, negating its original purpose. I do wonder if the lowered VW's kind of started it though (they have been around for a while). In order to lower the early ones you have to get a bunch of camber. Or was it simply heavy camber on performance cars taken to an extreme?
Our detail guy is one of the stance-tards.
He puts a ton of work into his M3 and clearly loves his car.
I don't get it but I'm happy that there are folks out there who still enjoy owning, working on and generally messing with cars.

My brother drives an e34 that is stanced on some 19s and it rides great. We drove 120 miles one weekend and it was smoother than my car.
Stop with the preconceived notions already.

(Im merely half kidding and not mocking, I don't mind stance as long as the vehicle had no actual motorsports potential and tires aren't overly stretched. They don't smash up the cars as much as drift kids tend to)
One positive thing I see in the stance trend is the birth of a wide variety of coilovers for cars that never really had them previously. They might not be great products (Raceland), but at least they are affordable. If anything, such modifications can allow new enthusiasts to say "hey, I really like the way this car handles, maybe I shouldn't slam so its dragging and actually like...race or something".
I like some of those cars they had on display, but my inner troll thinks they should have set up a portable speed bump in the parking lot and had a challenge to see how they negotiated it.
