NEW BROADBAND NETWORK SPEED2™ SET TO LAUNCH SUMMER 2010
MORE THAN A DOZEN INTERNATIONAL RACING SERIES SLATED FOR INAUGURAL ONLINE LINEUP
SPEED2, a groundbreaking new broadband network featuring live, streaming events that will complement the tremendous offerings of the linear SPEED network, is set to launch Summer 2010, it was announced today by SPEED President Hunter Nickell.
A beta version of SPEED2 will be available in June 2010 with a wider consumer debut targeted for July. Available only to SPEED subscribers as an authenticated online network, SPEED2 also will provide a variety of video-on-demand international motor sports content and compelling automotive and motorcycle enthusiast programming.
“NASCAR, the most popular form of motor sports in North America, is the foundation and top priority of the linear network,” Nickell said. “Developing SPEED2 provides a dedicated platform for a wider variety of racing, including some of the coolest international events from tracks around the world.”
Magazine shows, such as Motorsports Mundial and Inside Grand Prix, will be featured on SPEED2, and the network’s more than a dozen international racing series includes the Time Trial Xtreme Grand Prix (TTXGP), a race featuring zero-carbon, clean-emission motorcycles. Following is an initial list of the races scheduled exclusively for SPEED2:
• FIA GT1 and GT3 (World and European Championship Touring Car Racing Series)
• German Touring Car (DTM)
• World Touring Car Championship (WTCC)
• Intercontinental Rally
• British Touring Car Championship (BTCC)
• FIM Motocross World Championship (All-Terrain Motorcycle Racing)
• FIM Supermoto World Championship (Motorcross and Off-Road Racing)
• FIM Enduro World Championship (Long Distance Off-Road Motorcycle Racing)
• Nürburgring 24 (Touring Car Endurance Racing)
• Formula 2 (Open Wheel Formula Racing)

Both standard and high-definition content will be provided on SPEED2, and the broadband network will also have access to an extensive programming library from SPEED’s 14 years on the air, including the popular series American Muscle Car, Behind the Headlights, Back in the Day and Victory by Design.

"will also have access to an extensive programming library from SPEED’s 14 years on the air" can you say reruns with a capital RERUNS!

Yeah, but notice how it's reruns of car shows instead of reality crap? Is that so wrong?
Bring back the Lost Drive-In!
I am thinking when they say re-runs, they mean old SCCA racing and probably old WC racing, not this NASCAR crap they currently have going. I'm thinking that SPEED will become a sole Nascar channel and SPEED2 is for us road racing guys. It only took them 8 years of us Bob Costasing to get our own channel...
its about damn time.
It's owned by Fox though, so they will still find a way to screw it up.
Remember when everyone got excited about MTV2?

If I read that right, it won't be a TV channel, but an "online network". I'm assuming this means a web site with this stuff presented youtube style?

And only available if you already get speed...

I read recently that Jim Liberatore (one of the original SPEEDVISION guys) is starting a new channel called The Racing Network.
Don't know any of the details yet.
So if I get SPEED channel in the dorms will I get access to this channel?

I read about that several years ago, so my hopes haven't been up for a while.

If this works like ESPN360, you will only be able to access SPEED2 if you get your Cable TV and Internet from the same provider, i.e. Comcast, Time Warner, etc...
I get ESPN (and SPEED) via Dish and I can't access ESPN360. I won't be surprised if I can't get SPEED2 either.

Doesn't this sound like some sort of colossal anti trust issue??
This is the sort of thing net neutrality was supposed to address...
Time Warner in my area bundles speed with the "sports tier" which includes like 40 baseball and football channels, none of which I'm interested in.

They used to play those video things on there, right?

not really. think of it as an additional "channel" that you get as part of your subscription to a programming package that allows you to watch Speed.

I thought ESPN360 was carried by the internet providers. I was able to get it with AT&T DSL only. I didn't have any type of TV service.
I'm excited. They had me at Nurburgring 24 hours. And FIA GT1. I hope they also put more american racing on there, theres so much that goes untelevised
Also, since no ones done it yet:
I take it this is going to be taking a while? The Nurburgring 24 is this weekend.
"Wow! It's like Speed 2, only with a bus instead of a boat!" - Milhouse
My favorite Simpsons quote.

But only if you have internet and tv from the same source ie cable - according to a post in this thread. I have Direct TV because it was a little cheaper than my cable provider and AT&T DSL for internet. If I have to switch both to cable to get Speed2, would that violate some anti trust rules - or only if Fox/Speed have ownership in said cable providers?
Curse you, While reading your title I thought you meant a mazdaspeed2 would be coming to the USA
I am so crestfallen I am now going to have to get off the intrawebs and go back to work
i think it would be more appropriate to call it Speedvision again..

Basicaly it's a reason not to cancel SPEED from your programming.
But, at least they read the surveys we filled out.
