fess up, geeks. Its like.. 2 weeks away.
Friend of mine goes just about every year. I can't afford to go this year and probably not for a few years. For that matter I only live an hour away from GenCon and haven't made it in a few years. Last time I went I was living in Detroit.

You miss the point... if we cared, we would have done that ourselves...

Yeah, I'm with you. Spent some time yesterday getting some info on Tail of the Dragon. I have one more thing on my bucket list now. I've heard it mentioned several times, but never bothered to look into it. I can't wait to go there, but only with a suitable ride.
I've already done Deals Gap, but literally 98% of the people I know in Nashville plan their entire year around DragonCon. I figure that makes it worth checking out. (This year will be my first.)
I went to one of the first ones, back in my SCA days. dressed as a French Norman foot soldier carrying a round sheild and broadsword (to this day, still my weapons of choice), and marched in the parade (which is awesome).
Ultimately I realized that a broadsword was no match against a Klingon with a disrupter cannon, so I chickened out, and didn't go back again.
The one time I went, I almost got into a fight with someone because I started joking that Pokemon a "real" anime (well, it does have the whole younger man/older woman thing, even if they're 10 & 15. I also made the old joke about Prof. Oak really being Ash's father ). I started doing it just to tease him, and by the time I realized he was serious, it was a little too late. I actually like anime, but some of those people take it way too seriously.
I go every year... as a spectator ;)
I work across the street from the hotel where it's held, so a bunch of us always go over on our Friday lunch break to see all the nutty geeks and jailbait.
Met my wife there. We both volunteered on the tech staff, then moved across the country and have not made it back for about 8 years.
Much fun, you can still have a bit of fun if you like geeky parody videos, hop over to http://www.dragoncontv.com
I won't be doing anything too elaborate, I'll be going as Captain Hammer from Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog.

+2 on a GRM Dragon event... that could be fun. Similar to some of the yearly gathering one of my mtn bike sites does... put faces to screen-names...
sounds good to me! it's still summer/tourist season, let's start making plans for late sept/early oct?
I think seeing Hong Norr's and the like will be a little different than what the people out there usually see!
