Some politics we can talk about, I'm running for public office! (Can you donate to my Super-Pac?)

I am running for (re?) election! There was an opening on my local flood control zone district back in 2017 and I applied for the opening and was selected and appointed to one of the three commissioner positions. Fast-forward to today and I have been selected as the chair by the other two commissioners and I have to run for re-election to the remaining 4 years on the position. I just filed for my candidacy, which was pretty cool.

So, can you donate to my Super Pac? All campaign contributions can be made by sending car parts to me!

There was a recent local election and one of the spots was for the library board. There were 4 open positions and only two candidates, so I wrote myself in.

I don't think I won, but my wife still does.

I have to ask, how do you regulate where floods go, and if the water is in violation, how do you enforce your regulations? 

As a government employee I am forbidden to run for office. Doesn't keep me from being in the county jury pool for the last 3 years in a row though.

Yes, I was on our small town board for 4 years. It was educational & eye-opening, but there’s no way I’d do it again. 

If you don’t work in a Chappelle Black Bush reference into a public speaking of some sort, then we will all be disappointed to have supported your cause.

There's lots of foreign parties that I would happily allow to influence my election! Mazda, Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Polestar, Alpine, Superperformance...

We don't regulate, we protect. Levee, dam, 3 dikes, and 11 dewatering pumps. It's worth it for the dam jokes.

Good for you! I served on DID 15 for about 12 years. Finally stepped down when I moved. We took that district from being dysfunctional and broke to having rebuilt pumps, clean ditches, and enough cash reserves to fix a pump in that time.

All of the this.  I've actually written emails to, gotten replies from, and had issues resolved by my local representatives.  The president and US Congress mean berkeley all to your day to day life.  Want real outcomes and positive effects?  Start local.

It depends on if the water is politically motivated.  If it aligns with his party values, it will likely be ignored.

I ran for Mayor of my city.  A seriously upper crust sort of place where multi million dollar properties sit right next to each other. 

It cost me $2 and until the last day it looked like I would be unopposed.  Then a former Mayor put down her $2 and the battle was on. 

Well, until I spent time door knocking. Most people were  really normal and decent, but of course you’d run into the occasional wacko. 

From both sides of the spectrum. Luckily I’d attended enough council meetings to know usually the wacko’s stayed home. 

There were a few who really liked my approach and they paid for newspaper ads and lawn signs.  Although one person thought I lacked any public duty experience and she was right.  

We gave our one and only debate to the League of Women voters. I was told I gave a good performance and noticed a lot of the audience  nodding their heads.  My opponent got a very similar reception.  

Afterwards my opponent and I talked quietly. She admitted I had a lot of decent points and I said the same about her.  

Based on the lack of conflict between us, my lack of public  experience, and the fact that I hated every single council meeting I ever had to attend 

I simply didn’t do any more door knocking the last month. She beat me by 14 points. But I got what I really wanted.

Absolutely!  When a financial institution did everything they could to take my house I started locally found out the person to talk to was the State attorney General. She not only helped me but contacted the real movers and shakers who really saved me. 

Start local. You won’t believe the power they can bring to your aide

That’s fair, I do tend to be myopic when it comes to my choice of track cars.  

But back to politics,  90% of the laws that affect most people are decided locally.  A major chunk of the taxes you pay are decided locally ( yes even if you rent, taxes affect the cost of rentals) Most local politics doesn’t have a party basis or any real requirement. ( outside of major cities) 

So you can run on the anti-bubble gum and pro skate board party if that’s what you want. If you can vote, you can run for office. Usually the fee to do so is really trivial. 

All that is required for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing!
