I've seen car wash operators say no vans/SUVs before, but why the Fiero hate?

That's funny. BTW, I drove my CJ into one of those car washes, no doors or top. I sat in there the whole time. It was after this pic was taken
Pulled the drain plugs out of the floor and let 'er rip!
I'd find the biggest barely moving POS camper i could find and park it in the bay, then remove the wheels

Does that jeep have a GRM bumper sticker on it? 'Cause that thing has grassroots (or what they were attached to) all over it!

that is some serious mudding.

Aw, hay-ull yeah! My dad & I went in together (well, more him than me ) bought a new SJ in 1977, 2-dr Cherokee with the 360. I wanted the Chief package, but he was adamant that we get the vinyl seats and floor covering. I asked him why, and he said, "..you'll see..".
Brought it home from it's first fishing trip to Hatteras and he just opened the doors and sprayed it out with the garden hose..

"only in a Jeep"
Well, Fiero GT's had a rear wing, guess the brushes got tangled in them. Car and Driver did a story in Japan back in the early 90's, test drove a Supra and a Vette. Along the way they stopped at a car wash which proceeded to tear the rear wing clean off the Supra...
I remember the last time I rented a trailer from U Haul the contract stated they would not rent to you if you were going to pull the trailer with a Ford Explorer.
yep, I had to let people know that all the time when i worked at a center. we also couldn't let any trailers be towed by soft top jeeps. hard tops were ok. IIRC, they got sued during the firestone debacle because one of the incidents was while towing a uhaul trailer.
I can think of 2 possible reasons why they may not like Fieros at car washes....don't know if either or both apply.
1) Weren't Fieros kind of low slung? Perhaps they "hang up" on the mechanisms at those automated car washes?
2) Being GM AND mid-engined, is it possible that water intrusion into the distributor/ignition system is not up to the task? A lot of older cars shouldn't be pressure washed due to less than ideal water-tightness.

I'm with Gearheadotaku on this one...I'll bet the place was built in the 80s, and a Fiero was just the first car that had a wing ripped off.
I just thought it would be a good joke to think of the c/w's owner going down to discover the dealership is closed ("..b-but, I need a new cupholder for my 2002 Aztek! Berkeley Pontiac! I'll show them!!!...")

You said it. I never should have sold that thing. For the sentimental value, if nothing else. Beach wagon, Corner Worker camper, Tow vehicle..I'll bet that if I went looking for an SJ today, there'd be nothing but pimped up Grand Wagoneers with leather & carpet. Ugh.
Yeah, the Cherokees were sweet. I did have a wagoneer a few years back. I'll tell you, out of all the vehicles I've ever owned (Forester currently, and 14 or 15 Jeeps in the past) that was the BEST vehicle in the snow. Stock Jeep with stock size tires would walk, run or crawl through 24" of snow like it was 2". Amazing! Though I have to admit, mine was "pimped up" with leather, carpet and even the rear window went up and down!!

A friend of mine had a cool Comanche truck. The interior was out of a old cherokee, with leather and such. It was a cool truck, he even held the paint gun back a ways so the paint would dry with a very orange peel look, and in the olive drab, it looked pretty tough.

ROFL! So true. I think I found the last lawsuit loophole left for those guys, tho..#4 sez "Stop on red and put in park."
WTBerkeley is "park" on my 5-speed?
Looking at the sign again, I noticed they'd previously mentioned rear wings. I guess G'Otaku & I were wrong about that being the reason for the Fiero hatred...
If I were bored enough, I'd suggest we call up the Fiero Owners' Club and have an old-fashioned commie-pinko sign waving demonstration.
Buy up a bunch of clunker Fieros and feed them one-after-the-other into the carwash until it jams!

Ask your buddy if he was ever in Michigan Jeepers. I think I knew him and wheeled with him. I was "Jeepaholic" on the board.

Yup, and it is still their policy regardless of what year the Explorer you have. At least one of the exploding tire Explorers was pulling a U-Haul and they got sued. To get back at Ford and to stop it from happening again, they implemented this policy. What a ^&%*%( pain!
