Best breakup song evaaar.
If it's girl problems, I usually listen to Cake. Moat of his songs are directed towards women, plus it's some great music.
If I'm pissed or stressed it's usually laid back stuff like DMB, jack Johnson, John Mayer, etc.
oh, then there's Robert Cray or Stevie Ray Vaughan, in case The End Of Silence didn't get me where I need to be.
Stevie Ray Vaughn does a pretty good job. Any blues/rock. Also Antonin Dvorak's "of the new world" is a favorite. But the band and album that gets me through best is Boston and their first album - self titled Boston. When I was in Desert Shield/Storm I listened to a cassette tape of that album through headphones almost every night. Helped calm me after a long day and take my mind away from where I was. Still has that effect on me. Any of the songs from that album will do it. Don't know why this particular album does it, I have an eclectic and varied taste in music and spent time as a symphony musician when I was young. Local symphonies FWIW.

Oh man, listening to Robert Cray is like stepping into a time machine. I love his stuff, but it was the soundtrack to a relationship with someone who's not with us anymore... makes me too sad to listen.
The original Shuggie Otis version of Strawberry Letter 23
For me, Coldplay's Parachutes and Rush Of Blood To The Head albums get me through some hard times.
Then once I get through the hard times, I crank up the ZZ Top.
I imagine if I was a heroin addict, HUM's last two records would put me in a special place. I met this chick at a party out of town when I was 16 or 17, and we made out in her car and listened to the "You'd Prefer an Astronaut" record till the sun came up. Magical.
Shudder to Think's "Pony Express Record" is a deeply emotional masterpiece too, IMO.
Rush's Vital Signs usually does the trick for me.
Their Roll The Bones probably saved me from a nervous breakdown once. They came around in concert at the right time. About half way through RTB the lyrics clicked the mental reset I needed.
Setting the wayback machine to before I met my wife, the Amonia Avenue album by the Alan Parsons Project was a good for post-breakups.
Pennywise- Bro Hymn Tribute- the light re-write they did after their band member committed suicide. It's all I need.
New to posting here, but if Blaze Foley's Clay Pigeons doesn't straiten you, then you need to talk to a pro.
You'll need to log in to post.
