Sorry Canada, we need to close the border.

OK, sorry to our Canadian friends, but we just have to close the border. Then we can set the feds on deporting this damn arctic vortex for entering the U.S. illegally. After that we can return to our regularly scheduled winter and no more of this negative Fahrenheit crap.

I love winter, I love snow. But this is getting old.

I honestly like winter. I love winter sports. It's one of the reasons I love Michigan as a place to live. But this year is dumb, just dumb. Two weeks until we're in Florida to get on a 7 day caribbean cruise.

I always say to people if you don't like where you live move, well in 20 years this is the first time I haven't liked being in Michigan. My wife and I were just talking of the pro's and cons of retiring to Florida or Puerto Rico in 20 years as a result of this. I'm sure as hell not living here when old if the winters carry on like this.

I love the typical OK winter. Only really cold for 1-2 months and you still have random sunny, 60° days thrown in. 1-3 "snow events" that, again, are usually followed by a warm day to melt it off.

I'm not digging that there is still snow on my driveway from Sunday and we are supposed to get a bunch more snow on Monday.

Over it.

If they can't build a 1500 mile long fence, they sure can't build a 3,000 mile long wind break.

My truck has been plugged in almost every night since December so it will be able to start the next day.

On the plus side... I've skied more often this year than I have in the last 30 years and when I go... the lift lines are nil. Apparently I'm one of the few people willing to take children out in sub-zero (or close to it) weather.

We spent 3 days at Stowe on Mt Mansfield where we literally had the run of the place. It was -15 at the summit. Good gear and hot chocolate are all kids really need to survive in those conditions ;)

Full confession... we didn't sleep at the Summit. We had pretty posh digs to warm up in after the lift closed

Move out West where we currently have no winter, no snow (well, hardly any) and no water .

Meh, these were the winters from the 70's my dad and grandpa always spoke of. I've never seen anything like it, but this used to be somewhat normal back then.

My 80 year old in-laws who were born and raised in Chicago and moved to SE Mi in the 50's say they've never seen anything like this from a cold point of view. Snow I can live with, it's this ongoing cold. No, not cold, I can live with that, it's this on going berkeleying prolonged deep deep freeze that's that's getting to me. At least I have a desk job, my wife is a professional dog walker, she has to be out in this E36 M3 every day.

Your in laws must have lost some of their memory. In 1969/70 it as very cold. The month of January 1970 it never went above zero the whole month. that was in upstate New York, Midwest may have been different. I particularly remember it as I ran a small repair shop across the street from a hotel. Starting cars etc. was very lucrative.

They may not remember it, but they've [probably] experienced it. Chicago weather guru Tom Skilling said that this is the coldest winter in 30 years. So for me, at the age of 24, yes, this is the worst winter I can remember. But it is not the worst that my dad has experienced. It is the worst that my mom has experienced, because she only moved to Chicago in 1987.

I remember -20's for about 3 days straight as a teenager (around 91-92?), and I remember -teens for almost a week straight when I was around 7-8 (early 80's). We all stayed together in one house to conserve energy. Mom and Dad would walk the 1/4 mile down to keep the wood stove going in the house no one was in just to keep the pipes from freezing.

So yeah, this isn't new, just new for a new generation.

Hell, the locals might start actually shopping with us again with the Canadians gone!
