Dean, you just puked six paragraphs of emotion and I didn't see a single speeling flaw.

If in doubt, open up a Word document and spell check your stuff there first.

Yep. I get the auto-correct underline option at home with Firefox, but not here at work with IE. I just went through the options menu and that function doesn't seem to be there. It would be nice.

I usually try to keep my spelling accurate, but occasionally typing dyslexia lets one through. Usually when I'm looking at the keyboard. If I type correctly (not looking at the keyboard), I'm usually more accurate as I'm paying more attention to each word. If I'm typing and I'm not sure of the spelling, I'll often paste it into Word and see how it looks. Other times I'll choose a different word that I know I can spell. I'll also go back and edit spelling mistakes if they bother me.

Posting from my Droid adds a second level of quirks. Some words are simply tedious to type. Like "it's" for example, since it won't give me the auto-correct option when typing "its". Whether I fix the mistake or not depends on how much of a rush I'm in when posting.

My journalism training makes me pay special attention to paragraphs. You can often tell someone is a noob on this forum since the paragraphs only work if you return twice, whereas single return breaks turn into one long paragraph.

Dean, I too am guilty of correcting your grammar in the past, and I apologize for that. Take heart that even with your dyslexia; you post well-written and thoughtful passages. When it comes to quality of writing, this forum is wonderful compared to most epithet and insult-laced mindless boards.

I'm with Max Archer. I can take a few spellers, because I can't type and let a few through accidentally myself. But the run-on sentences with no periods or capital letters just wear me out. I usually skip those posts.

There is a good chance someone sounds like a hillbilly before they start drinking Natty Light as well.

Hey, I like ain't. We've got aren't, isn't, weren't, can't, etc. Ain't is our amn't, because amn't is unpronounceable (esp. when you've had 12 Natty Lights).

Whenever I use "ain't" as well as other slang terms, it is always to make a point within context.

Yes, I saw that. Would you believe I originally had a comma there and Word auto-corrected it to a semicolon?

Problem with a spell checker is it doesn't check for the right word in the wrong place, like there, their, and they're. And of course, if you have autocorrect (like on a phone) it can completely change the word and meaning, while being spelled correctly. Personally, if I'm on a car site, I don't care, even if I'm reading it. I know a lot of car guys and it's about cars, not being the worlds best secretary/typist. Those are simply not skills that competent mechanics ever had to learn to fix cars. I type fast, but E36 M3 happens. I never took typing classes. and my left hand is basically worthless when it comes to typing, so it'll often lag behind what my brain is telling the fingers and I get letters backwards. I'll check it, but it's not as important as if I were doing a job interview or resume, and stuff can get missed. So if you see a teh or theri instead of the or their, it's just not important.

How long is a spell? Or is that a double edged sword of wit due to the nature of the thread?

Actually if you wanted to nit pick it would be damper

To damp is to restrain, discourage or retard energy

To dampen is to make things moist or to dull or deaden as in sound.

A damper is what we call a shock, a dampener would be a moist sponge or an acoustic dampener like dynamat.

Yea, I was just pointing out that even if you wanted to write dampener it wouldn't be spelled dampner.

You missed "Hay". (10)

That happens to be my pet peeve! My spelling has been know to suck, so I am forgiving of the wrong vowel, or a missed double letter, but I am irritated when people don't know that, are and our are different words!

there is some question as to whether "irregardless" is actually a word but in any case you are thinking thnking is a gud thing those that don't think and don't even try are da bane of the readers existence on the locost forum there are a couple of members that misspell everything run them together and never or seldom punctuate the bad thing is that they usually have good ideas it's just that no one noes brakes and breaks are one of my pet peeves too who cares whether they spell camero right or not the car is irrelevant

Actually it is important. If you are going to the trouble to type then you need to go to enough trouble to make sure your communication is getting through or else why bother?

Yeah, autocorrect is the new bane of my existence. It is very fond of substituting "it's" where "its" is appropriate. Worse, that's one of my worst fingernails-on-chalkboard pet peeves. And it makes me do it myself!
