Interesting that the lensed doesn't look centered in the chuck when looking at the chuck, but appears centered on the tail stock when spinning.  Either he was very careful when aiming the camera or there is some editing after the fact.

I don't have a GoPro, so this may be a stupid question. 

I wonder if there is enough adjustment to play with the frame rate and make the image stationary at speed. 1800 rpm was approaching that point.

At 60 frames per second, 3,600 RPM would have the camera in the same spot for each frame. 30 frames per second would be in the same spot at 1,800 RPM. You would probably still have blur as the camera is still moving while the shutter (or whatever digital version gopro uses) is open.
