Clearly not suede. 
Too late now but the easy button would have been to paint a cow, then test on the cow. Keeps the shoes from getting ruined until you knew what worked.

Looks like you have them sorted in BLUE!
Totally wore them to work today. Grey slacks, black belt, business blue long sleeve button up, and BLUE! shoes.
