I saw nothign wrong with the cinematography, but now that you point it out, I'll probably notice it next time I try to watch it. Thanks. How about some of the previews? G.I. Joe is going to be fantastic, as is Transformers II. UP looks stupid, but it's Pixar and I'm sure it'll be a good flick.

Land of the lost may or may not have potential and Year One looks to be AWESOME.

I cannot believe they're turning Land of the Lost into a comedy. The good news is that Will Ferrel isn't going to be in GI Joe so at least that part of my childhood won't be ruined.

Star Trek rocked. Did anybody else get the apple connection between the new movie and Star Trek II? How about the Admiral Archer and beagle comment from Scotty? Nice to see a shout out to the Enterprise TV show.

The good news about any movie is when Wll Ferrell isn't in it.

I enjoyed the film. Lots of references to the TV show. While I am not a "trekkie" so to speak, I liked to be entertained. This film did just that.

Just got back. It exceeded my expectations. Hopefully I can say that with Terminator and Transformers.

Lots of good sci fi movies remaining too!

well, I for one am looking forwards to Transformers 2. Not that I am a fan, but I was on the set up in Bethelhem steel and in the old electric company in Philly for some of the sequences

The ship didn't bother me at all. Without a back to back reference point any differences weren't immediately noticeable. Or at least weren't a big enough deal to interfere or draw attention away from the story line.

I take it there was something weird about the ship? A casual fan like me could still instantly recognize it as the enterprise.

Think I'm going to go see it tomorrow afternoon.

Oh and my favorite version of the Enterprise was the one used in the "Enterprise" series I think they called it NX-01.

I saw it yesterday, and really, really enjoyed it.

I thought that I was gonna like Simon Pegg's Scotty the best, and while it's very, very good, Karl Urban's McCoy slightly topped it for me.

Slight Spoiler Alert: I did appreciate that they did the story line such that it can peacefully coexist with the rest of the Trek universe. I do agree that time travel is a horrible, horrible plot device, but they seemed to minimize it, I mean, they didn't use it to undo one of the main tragedies of the movie, which I fully expected them to. I actually do really appreciate that tragedy, as it provides a very different universe for them to play in.

I'm ready for the sequel already!

Wasn't Scotty's comment about "shooting a bullet with a smaller bullet while riding on a horse, blindfolded" lifted from one of the movies, as well?

Yeah, I thought the ship seemed much more NCC-1701-A than NCC-1701.

SPOILER ALERT: ...however, events in the movie change the timeline BEFORE the NCC-1701 is built, so it's sensical that it would appear different.

I thought it was pretty good, but not great. The action was fun, I loved the visual treatment, and the characters were a blast.

I had two beefs. The main villain was boring. He was Romulan! He was angry! He wanted revenge! He had a big ship with big guns! He was made from cardboard!

The whole movie was also expository. They had a bunch of major characters that they needed to pack in as much background for as they could, and that meant there wasn't time for too much else.

I'm thinking the next movie will be better. They'll be less busy re-introducing the characters and figuring out how they all get into their roles on the Enterprise. They'll actually have time for a full-length plot.

I liked it. I was in full on geek mode once Bones showed up on the shuttle.

All the references to TOS and Enterprise were nicely wrapped in dialog, not blatant enough to be offensive and not so obscure to require a frame-by-frame analysis. There was nothing in the movie to alienate non-trekkies.

[here be spoilers]

Having said that...Kirk's promotion was too fast. He went from academic probation to stowaway to first officer to captain in about 1 movie day's time and none of this motion was his own. He was pushed every step of the way. Pike, Bones, Pike, Spock and Spock made the decisions for him. The only decision he made himself was to use Scott's suggestion near the end of the movie. I hope the writers of the sequel can bring more self-sufficiency to Kirk because Towely from South Park could have taken Kirk's place and the movie would have played out the same way.

Star Park or maybe South Trek.

Would they keep killing Kenny Spock on that one too?

not that they plan to, but would it be possible to ever add on to the "Original" timeline? Hence why mucking around in temporal theory HURTS my brain.

My only gripe is mention of the Cardasians(IIRC) in the bar, but this being a new time line I can let it slide

my wife is a huge Trek fan (original series, TNG, all the movies)...i'm more of an "i'll watch TNG if it's on" guy. we both loved the movie. she thought Pine nailed the Kirk character perfectly, and wasn't bothered by the Uhura(?...see?) change at all. excellently cast, excellently written, and excellently acted. and that was Eric Bana? huh.

Dave, i think the original series is hokey enough to border on unwatchable, except in an ironic, "this is americana" sort of way. i saw my first Trek movie on TV the night before we saw this new one. that said, those were some of the best movie dollars i've ever spent.
