I have the DVD set that includes the original unmolested versions (you can see the matte boxes and other imperfections). I wonder if this is different - I have to assume it is, but how?
I like the Andywan version.

I also have the '05 special edition with the original versions on the bonus disk. I'm just surprised Disney hasn't made the cash grab of a cleaned up theatrical blue ray.

Considering Lucas gave the Star Wars fans that built his empire a huge middle finger because he doesn't understand nostalgia, I applaud these heroes.
Interesting long read on the condition of the original negatives and what the various editions have done to them.

Waaait.... this is almost a year and a half old.
I also know of a 3rd party restoration on blue ray. It was only 720(i?). I think that came out maybe 5 years ago. I have a friend with the set.
I just want my yub nub.
You guys want to check out the despecialized version too.

That's the despecialized edition, primarily based off the current blu ray releases, the guy who did that one revised it a few times, I think the current version for episode IV is 2.5.
There's also the "Puggo Grande" 16mm scan with minimal cleanup.

As I understand it while the money sure was an enabler it had a lot to do with his wife (who was one of the editors for the original trilogy) leaving him, this is also why the prequels sucked, nobody was there to hold him back.
