This guy is doing a solo restoration of the original theatrical Star Wars and the improvement in the detail and quality is absolutely mind-blowing.  I have to believe that Disney will fund this and show it theatrically.

It's a three hour podcast but you'll see what you need to in the first 10 minutes.

EDIT:  The original livestream is a little over an hour.  The last two hours are made up answering questions from the viewers.

I would go see this.  But that's a given.  (I also have 3 VHS sets and 2 DVD sets.)

I got to see the original in the theater 22 times. I was 6 I think and the matinee was just before my Mother's college class started. She'd drop me off to watch the movie and head to class. She'd be there waiting for me when the movie let out.

I have been Han berkeleying Solo ever since.

Clearly the emotional scarring is still with you.

Didn't they sort of do this in the movie Rising Sun?  I mean when they use the leading and preceding frames.  Obviously in this case he is doing his best to use multiple examples of the same frame for the restore.  Very interesting.  I wonder if he is publishing any of the software/algorithms for this.

Very cool! I love stuff like this. I wish the studios would wise up and see there is a market for nostalgia. We want to see the film like it was the FIRST time we was it in the theater.

Also check out the Team Negative1 project: https://www.theverge.com/2016/2/18/11051776/star-wars-1977-35mm-original-silver-screen-edition

The Team Negative1 film version is the only one I've ever shown my kids, they all know Han shot first.

Or better, in this case.
