Annual event locally, cool stuff. I like boats, and I like the Dr. Seuss gee whiz pop & squeak of steam; so why don't I have one?

They are cute and fun, until you have to sit by the boiler on one and ride it. Yesh, do they give off some heat!
Though be grassroots, build a human sized putt-putt steam boat. It can be done.

I'm going to have to use "terrible conflagration" in a sentence here at work today.

I bet we can find a use for those two words at one of the challenges someday

you want this as an error message?
not particularly...but it might be appropriate (there is definitely a lot there to help demonstrate that "Something has gone wrong"). Truthfully, though, it was the conflagration image that was the impetus of my post.

That would be a good one too.
Back on topic...I'd LOVE to go see a live steam boat show if I lived near enough to where one was.
Steam power is cool!

You might use these sites as launching points for information, one may be closer than you think.
I see them like I do young women; I like to walk the seawall and fantasize, but when the real maintenence and cost is tallied I just smile and walk away knowing what's at home.

Sorry Clem, most of them are blocked at work, you get the idea.

I've posted the link for these guys before: Reliable Steam Engine Co.
You can buy plans, castings and ready to run engines (from 4 to 200 HP and over 1000LBS torque) and boilers. Just add boat.
If the boiler is too hot, you need to add moar asbestos. Maybe one of our good Canadian friends could send some our way.
BTW I think the steam launches are cool as heck.
You'll need to log in to post.
