"This afternoon I scared myself, and I have always said that if I felt I was not up to it or that I was getting in the way of fellow competitors, then I would retire," Moss said. Moss is one of the most recognizable figures in motorsports, with a career that has spanned more than 60 years. His accomplishments include twice winning the British Grand Prix and being a three-time winner of the Monaco Grand Prix. He also won the Mille Miglia, the Targa Florio and the Tourist Trophy. It's about time he stepped aside and made room for younger drivers!

Good for him, both for continuing to race into his 80s and for having the maturity to decide he'd had enough. I'm not sure which is more impressive actually.

I watched him drive at the latest Goodwood Festival of Speed (on TV of course) and he looked like he was having a little difficulty. He's still one cool dude.

Couldn't agree more. I too was afraid this thread was about Sir Moss retiring from this mortal coil, I'm glad the news is not that sad.

Maybe the thread should have stated that Moss has re-retired; the first one occurred after his Goodwood accident. Not to poop on the all vintage racers out there, but there is a bit of difference with the level of competition.

That said, I'll gladly state that my only time to see him race was at an SVRA event at Rd Atlanta. That man, already deep into his sixties, properly whooped and humiliated everyone else on the grid.

May the man live an ever longer and more prosperous life..............

I'm sure the man can find something to take up his time now.
