Scott Weiland, lead singer for the Stone Temple Pilots passed away last night in his sleep.
I know they broke up but back in the day I was a huge fan of the music.

I was a big STP fan back in the day while growing up. I'm honestly surprised it took him this long with the amount of drugs he took over the years. RIP.
RIP
They were one of the seminal groups of the 90s. Unfortunately, not a big surprise, as he was a troubled guy.
It sounds brutal, but Lane Staley did it the right way if it had to be done that way at all. Go out while everybody still wants more.
The rocknroll lifestyle wins again.
I was surprised and not surprised at the same time to hear this. He had his fair share of problems with substance abuse and tried to fight the demons associated with that. I heard an interview with him on a local station a couple months ago and he seem to have his stuff together and was a good interview to listen to.
I'm going to remember all the good music all of us are left with. Core, Purple, Tiny Music, Number 4, 12 Bar Blues were all heard during the soundtrack of my youth growing up. Thanks for the music Scott!
I clicked on this thinking STP had gone out of business ... glad to hear it's not the case ... but this guy I've never heard of ... sorry he's gone (as much as I would be for anyone dying)
Maybe he was killed by ISIS:

Scott Weiland made his opinion on the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) clear on Canadian Sirius XM program The Todd Shapiro Show recently with the poignant use of that certain four letter word.
"berkeley ISIS. And if they come after me, I'll berkeleying pull out my Glock 17," he said about the terrorist organization's threat to the world, noting his semi-automatic pistol

I was a fan too, I guess I still am. Saw them in concert a couple times, great shows!
And yes, he did have substance abuse issues. In fact, didn't one instance end up in a felony offense? Curious how he was able to buy a hand gun if it's the case. I guess I have to do some reading on that.
Not trying to be a flounder here...
I had to go back and listen to 4 (the one after Tiny Music...) today. That was the soundtrack to my senior year of High School. Great album. Brought back a lot of memories.
i'm one of those people that didn't really hate STP, but i didn't really like them all that much, either.. they were a good solid rock band, but they sounded to me too much like a combination of all the grunge that had been on the radio for a few years before they showed up and i was just mentally ready for good old fashioned metal to come back into my life again.. that, and i have a hard time feeling sorry for someone that keeps going back to the same self destructive things that almost killed them numerous times before.
That stinks, but I'm not at all surprised about it either. Great band with a unique sound. They were a great influence when I first started playing guitar in the mid 90s. Especially their bass player, he's got a great style.

I'm glad you've never had to deal with a crippling addiction or depression. Those who never have, will never be able to understand what it's like.
(Not a flounder, sincere, from someone who has plenty of demons that I struggle with on a daily basis.)
News reported cocaine was found on his bus. The Roustabouts were scheduled to play the Medina Entertainment Center but the show was cancelled due to poor ticket sales so they parked in Bloomington waiting for the next show in Rochester.
Bloomington is also the city where Brian Pillman and Eddie Guerrero passed away, RIP.

i personally don't have to deal with those things, but i know plenty of people that do... ultimately, everyone has to choose their own path and some people choose to let their demons get them while some choose to keep fighting them. Scott Weiland chose to let his demons win.
Was sad to hear the news about this a couple of days ago -- he definitely did beat the Vegas line on how long he was going to make it, sad to hear of his passing. Listened to a little Plush in his memory.

This statement again shows you don't really get what it's like.
It's not a choice.
RIP Weiland.
