I didn't really care who won until the Eagles were getting away with such blatant offensive holding. No calls on either side for that, but it sure seemed odd how they could get away with it and keep a drive alive.

Although I do not consider myself an Eagles fan, mere words cannot express the joy I felt when time expired and the Pats were on the losing end. What an incredible game! There were times I felt that the Pats would find yet another way to cheat, or that the refs would hand them one more championship, but in the end, good triumphed over evil.

It seemed there were very few penalties in general during the game. Sounds like the Refs were told to keep the game moving.
I hate Brady as much as the rest of the world outside of Boston proper, but after a long-ass game, with a few hits and a bad hand and no time on the clock, he shakes off a serious attempt at a tackle and throws what, 80 yards, and puts the ball EXACTLY where Gronk was. It wasn't a catch, but you can't say that old-timer doesn't have mad skills. A great game to watch.

This talk of cheating is getting stupid. Watch the games and you can just see where they are simply better at executing plays than other teams. It's really that simple. The refs didn't call a LOT of calls they could have against the Eagles, but I don't see anyone claiming they cheated or the refs let them have the game. They (Philly) just executed offense better in this game. Neither team's defense really showed up into that last strip against Brady. Which is why there was such high offensive yardage and a rather high score for a SB. I'm not a Pats fan but I'm getting really tired of the BS that is the hatred against someone who is successful now in this country.

Yup, if Gronk had jumped a half second later, he would have been the tallest in that group and brought it down. Amazing throw in a tough situation.
I will say it was an exciting game, but where was the defense for either team? These were two of the best defenses in the league and they both got shredded. At that point I still thought New England was going to win it. Amazing that the game came down to that.

The tough part to watch- there was basically one clutch play that covered both D's. Other than that, neither did anything that significant.
Had NE's D tightened up on one drive, they would have won. For that matter, had they held on ONE PLAY, they had a great chance of winning- as they would have the ball with 5 min left at the 50. One play. Instead, Philly got the one play and forced a turn over that pretty much ended the game.

It's not just talk. Deflategate never happened? The Pats have cheated and been caught before. Their "culture of cheating" has been the subject of many articles published in a number of reputable publications. I do not deny that they are a great team, but the fact is, they cheat.

Every team cheats. The best part about NE's cheating is that it distracts everyone why they keep winning. Everyone is convinced that their cheating is why they win- when I really think that the cheating is there to hide why they are winning. Nobody wants to believe that just being that prepared and that professional is enough to win at their scale.
Keep focusing on that, and thinking that, and they will still win.

I only watched the last 2 minutes of each half, but that was enough... Good game, and i'm conflicted on the "no PI" calling - the second Philly 2pt conversion looked like obvious PI against New England to me.
Maybe the league can standardize the PI rules a bit too when defining what a catch is and whether a receiver and a rushed should be treated differently. I'd be OK if every pass had a big fight for the ball at the receiving end.

It sure distracts a lot of people, and NE keeps winning in spite of all of the penalties. So, yes. Maybe it's that they get caught to add to the razzle dazzle of distraction.
They're good, but that's one of the more preposterous theories that I've heard.
They've had numerous black marks on their dynasty, but their organization and their fans routinely claim that the NFL is out to get them. Their owner is the most powerful in the league. Their QB is the face of the league. They have one of the biggest markets in the NFL to themselves. It's very much in the NFL's best interest to see them do well (especially if that success comes on the heels of a bunch of drama that keeps the NFL in the headlines for months at a time) so the talk of witch hunts, etc has always struck me as funny. The NFL needs a 'bad guy' to keep the story entertaining, and the Pats play the role perfectly. If the NFL were really out to get them, they would've crippled the franchise at some point in the last decade after one of the many scandals that has come to light.

I don't think they actually managed to make a 2 point conversion, did they? They tried but never got it in.
Whatever the reason - clean play or refs ignoring fouls - a big part of the reason the game was fun was because it wasn't held up by endless flags and penalties and long winded reviews. It's like the regular season games are designed to test the patience of fans.
Both offenses were working so well that it really came down to "just one play", and it was a matter of who was going to get it first. The Eagles coach was making some gutsy calls, too - but he was vindicated because it works. They weren't supposed to win, but they pulled it off.
Watching how badly NE played, and knowing how much the powers that be like to keep things changing up, I can imagine that NE was quietly told to throw the game.
The first half especially they looked like amateur hour, not the returning champions.

No offense, but you're drunk on success. I didn't watch the Superb Owl, but I did see some of the AFCCG, and they didn't look great against Jax either. It's in the NFL's best interest to get as much out of the Brady/Belichick tandem as they can. Once those 2 are gone, the money that NE swims in will probably begin to dry up, and they'll move on to greener pastures. But for now, they're going to squeeze all of the juice that they can from it.
The cheating scandals and allegations will always be a black mark on their legacy, as well they should be. From videotaping opposing teams signals, (allegedly) jamming radio communications in their stadium, (allegedly) bugging the visitors locker room, to underinflating football's (which was admittedly way overblown, no pun intended), pushing the bounds of rules is something they've consistently done to a much greater extent than any other team. I think its just part of Bill's makeup, and what makes him so great, to look for every possible advantage and sometimes he just doesn't consider, or care about, the legality of it.
Regardless of all that, I don't think it delegitamizes what Belichick and Brady have accomplished, and they're still unquestionably the greatest coach and qb of this generation and probably ever. They really are that good. To sustain the success they have for as long as they have is proof of that. The fact that it was the Patriots they beat makes this win that much more satisfying as an Eagles fan because there is no adversary more worthy on the big stage.

I thought there were definitely a few questionable no call PIs on the Pats, but I'm sure there were some missed on Philly too. Overall, much rather have the refs let them play like they did last night, thought the officials did a fantastic job of not getting in the way.
Doug Pederson needs a statue of his massive brass balls in front of the stadium, fearless play calling last night against Belichik and the Pats, but that's what he's done all season long. Calling a pass to Foles on 4th and goal though? That was ridiculous.

Watching the team connect on the field shows that NE really does play well and usually other teams simply fail to adapt and keep up with the rapid fire pace that Brady likes. I"m not a NE fan, being from Baltimore I'd much rather see my Ravens in the big show again and know that we're one of the few teams that can come into Gillette and beat them in playoff season. The Pats can be beaten, it's just that most teams don't. The Eagles did this time, when their defense finally showed up and did what they had to do: get to Tom.
But I can't take the "whenever someone's winning so much they must be cheating" mentality that tends to crop up, and the outright hatred over continued success.we have in this country.
