Last night Mrs. Editor and I checked out the Honda Supercross here at Daytona International Speedway.
First observation: Dang, they get a lot of spectators. The course is built between pit land and the front stretch, allowing the (super-new) stadium to be used to seating. Seemed like the stands were full all the way to the top--or at least pretty darn close. We watched from the track's front stretch--like, we stood on the oval. Lots of kids and families there.
Great action. I admit, we got there late (busy day yesterday) but we caught the 450SX main. Seemed like Eli Tomac sat in second place until he was ready. We saw the pass for the lead, and then he never looked back. The final was 20 laps--just long enough.
You can watch the final here, and we were near the guy in the bright-yellow shirt:
Also, check it out, flames. We need this more in our world.
They filled up the Metrodome in Minneapolis when i saw them there a few years ago.. that place held 50,000 or so..
I'd imagine a similar turnout in Daytona, maybe more because it is one of the more prestigious events that they do..
