I need tires for my Highlander. These rate #1 at tire rack.
My head says Michelin but this rating summary has me wondering...
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Pirelli&tireModel=Scorpion+Verde+All+Season+Plus&partnum=465HR7SVASPXL&vehicleSearch=true&fromCompare1=yes&autoMake=Toyota&autoYear=2012&autoModel=Highlander&autoModClar=Base#RatingsReviews
Anyone have personal experiences?
Not that exact model, but my 07 F-150 came with Pirelli Scorpions and I hated them. Fast wear and terrible grip. I replaced them with high-end Goodyear Wranglers and was very happy. For a crossover like a Highlander, I'd probably recommend General Altimax, that's what we put on the Taurus X, and they seem pretty good.
The Pirelli Scorpion verdes are perfect...The perfect mix of crappy grip, annoying noise, poor ride quality and fast wear. Had them on the wife's 03 Volvo XC70, and on rough roads they were miserable. Stiff sides made for good mpgs though. Replaced them with Nokian WGs, which are GREAT. Good price, awesome grip in rain/snow, nice ride. They're marked as all seasons, but definitely skew more towards bein a winter tire. I don't think I'd recommend them if you live in the south or southwest, but in the NE they're just about perfect. Only downside is wear: Wife only drives about 5k miles/year, so in our case they will age out before they wear out.
I've been happy with Bridgestone duelers.
I have Yokohama Geolanders on the Disco.. great tyre

great tire
Fixed that for ya' this is America man.
I had Dueler AT Revos on my 4WD Suburban several years back. Thought they were fanstastic.
But this vehicle is full time on road.
I am curious about P vs. LT rated. I don't think there is any reason to look at LT flavor for my stated use, is there?
........And now, subject shift............
Stock size is 245/65R17. While I actually do like the pizza cutter look on 4x4s, a road vehicle IMHO looks better wider.
Calculator says 265/60R17 diameter is within a couple hundredths of an inch. Hmmm.
An easy upsize rule for stock wheel size is +10 -5. That should fit without issue.
Disregard the upside question. Only one tire available in that size.

I've been really happy with the Toyo Open Country and the Yok Geolander ATS. Reasonable and checked all the boxes.
Firestone Destination LE2? Ranks highly in tire rack surveys, my mother runs them 4 seasons on a jeep with no complaints.
Didn't have the Verdes, but the Pirelli Scorpions on my truck got yanked at 20k because they were so badly cupped that I couldn't handle the noise, the buzzing dash pieces, and the fact that no matter what the shop did, they would not balance. They were also nearly bald in spots and absolutely helpless when a snowflake touched the road.
Replaced them with Dueler AT Revos. I hate them slightly less than the Scorpions. Also horrible wear, cupping, noise. They at least have very good traction.
My next set will be Open Country ATs.
Truth is, I have yet to encounter an LT/SUV tire that actually was any good. LT AS, AT and HT tires are easy to find quality. MT is easy. But of this new breed of "crossover" fancy SUV AT tires, I've yet to see any of them that are worth anything. They all seem to just fail in every way. I think they are trying to make them look good, and 90% of premium truck/suv buyers want a bad*** tire for their truck that will never leave pavement. Poser vehicles get poser tires. And the posers are buying them left and right.
So for now, I stick to tried-and-true AT stuff. No "treadblocks shaped like a scepter for a ninja look," or "new market-tested name makes you think they're better for your SUV's 26" rimzz." Just tires. Real tires. No fancy.
Also a word on Tire reviews. Nearly all of them are complete time wasters. Everyone puts on tires like a kid puts on new sneakers and says he can run faster. Only believe the negative reviews. Plus... there is an entire business based on writing reviews. You know those Craigslist jobs that say "earn money from home?" Some of them are for review writers. Pirelli employs people and pays them for every positive review you leave on Ebay, Tire Rack, DTD, NTB, etc. Positive reviews can't be trusted.

Snip..
I will say the tires in question are very, very good. And Michelin have never had a competitive CUV tire...since the market formed for CUV tires.
OP:
Can you get Conti LX20's in your size?
Conti LX20 is available in the right size. Are they good? I have read they're OEM tires on a couple luxury SUV/CUVs.
My priorities are: highway grip, durability, low noise, foul weather ability, economy - basically in that order. No off-road use at all. I'd have a 4Runner if that was the planned use.
Snow not really gonna be an issue in ATL. We all just get out of the car and panic when it snows
Thanks for redirecting the thread back to Highlander!
In reply to curtis73: you make a great point about reviews. I did note that many reviews were written immediately after installation, or with very low miles. Pretty much why I came here with the question. They seem to be a fairly new tire.
I remember being impressed by my smartphone's battery consumption in the first few months, too....
We have the Toyo Versado CUV's on our Highlander and I highly recommend them. They are quiet, stick well on dry and wet and reasonable priced. Fairly decent in light snow. We have the 19" size and AWD. After 10k, they appear to be wearing quite well too!

Had the Nitto's, which were good tires. The 420 we had have been updated to the 420S. They look like they will get noisy as they wear.

Idk about the second tire but that's a pretty spot on description of the scorpions lol
Mine is a 2012 Highlander, base model with 17" wheels bought 7 das ago. 245/65R17. Glad they're not a crazy expensive size..
Congratulations of the new purchase. The Highlander is a great family hauler although it is mundane to drive.
Still recommend the Toyo's. They have a 255/60R17 for $132 each. Dang! Those are way cheaper than the 19".

Yep. It's amazing how awesome new tires (also shocks/struts etc) feel when they're replacing worn out or broken versions. Even a solidly mediocre tire beats the crap out of the bald ones I just took off the car...
This means even legit positive reviews need to be taken with a pretty serious does of salt.

Do you realize we are talking about a Toyota Highlander here?
Oh. Oops. Nothing to see here, carry on.
You guys are silly. There is zero reason to go with anything besides michelin ltx ms/2's. They are the best all-around tire for cuvs/suvs/trucks. Period. No further discussion required.

Not made in the OEM size. I will have to cross check 265/60R17 which is almost identical diameter and should fit fine.
Edit: nope
There are two reasons not to run michelin ltx ms/2's.
-
They're expensive

Unless you put 20,000+ miles/year on them, they'll dry out before they wear out.
My cousin's Volvo ??? XC70? hell I dunno what it is came with those Scorpions and that just reinforced what I've known since the 1980's: I refuse to buy Pirellis. I'm a LTX MS/2 fan, on my 3rd set on various vehicles and have been very very happy with them. Good all around grip, quiet, wear like iron.
By the way, the MS/2 isn't made in your size (245/65-17) but the M/S is. Same tread pattern etc and those are the first ones I bought, I had one set of M/S's and 3 sets of M/S 2's. All my comments apply to both the M/S and M/S 2.
I know LTX MS are know for very good durability/wear performance. Are they pretty quiet?
