Just a friendly reminder to visit your doctor regularly and take care of yourself. Today marks four years since my wife had a stroke. Thankfully she's back to about 80% of where she was before it happened but many of our friends aren't so lucky. It may have been avoided if she had stayed on her meds or asked about problems she was having instead of ignoring them. If you don't do it for you do it for person that's stuck picking up the slack because you're busy falling down or pissing on yourself. You cause your wives enough headaches there's no need to pile on.

Thank You and Good Night.

Well said! Though I love forward to seeing my docs less often. There's nothing noble or manly about not seeing your medical care takers or trying to gut through something, it's irresponsible and disrespectful to those who care about you. Hug and hold your wife tonight and enjoy a beverage for me.

It's almost six years since I went to see my doctor on the advice of one of my buddies at hockey. He said something like "It's not indigestion ,Peckerhead" and it turned out he was right. He has stents and I have 3 by-passes and we're both still playing hockey.

While we're giving medical advice, don't stop taking your anticonvulsants. Been a good clean few years I've been back on mine and doing fine.

Good to hear your wife is doing well. Strokes aren't easy to recover from.

I was in Brigham Hospital in Boston this week for my second cardiac ablation. Relatively routine procedure. One overnight. While Annie was waiting in the family room while I was on the table she struck up a conversation with a woman in her sixties from CT. She and her husband had a great life up until a couple years ago. But they never visited the doctor. He had COPD but didn't get treatment. He died a couple years ago. A few months later she was diagnosed with cancer. She's now being treated at Brigham & Women's but the ultimate prognosis is not good. She sold her house in CT and is living in an apartment in Boston to be near the hospital. Sad story.

And my brother never went to the doctor. Ten years ago he died at work of a massive heart attack. He was only 59 and could have had his medical problem fixed with relatively routine bypass surgery.

In 1999 I had a TIA (mini stroke.) full recovery. Tests found I had partial blockage of both carotid arteries. After many ultra sounds and MRI's it was determined not life threatening . I was put on 350mg Aspirin a day. I also altered my diet cutting fatty foods as much as possible. Last week, I had my semi-annual check up. Doctor said I was the healthiest of his patients my age. Getting old sucks. "Golden Years" ? More like lead. Had to give up things I enjoy. But I intend to go down screaming.

Have a buddy whose life was saved by giving blood. They checked his blood pressure and it was off the charts. This was 20 years ago and he just retired healthy.

If it weren't for the fact that I had to have a physical for racing, I may not have caught onto the fact that my blood sugar levels were pre-diabetes. Thanks to that bit of revelation, a treadmill, and changing my diet, I've avoided a diabetes diagnosis for 10 years now.

And then there's the prostate check, which I won't go into here (har!).
