Mrs. dx and myself are heading down to Annapolis for a mini vacation this weekend and will be staying near downtown Annapolis. Any decent places around there to eat?

Look for a deli called Chick and Ruth's. The food and ambiance are truly awesome.

Davis' Pub
With the sign over the bar, "You can't drink all day if you don't start in the morning!"
I did not realize that Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives had featured Davis' last year.

The cheapest Dark and Stormies are at The Annapolis Yacht Club. I spent the vast majority of a Sunday afternoon there once. It was a group of 4, none of use were members or with a member. We had just finished a couple days of sailboat racing but had hours to kill before I flight out of Baltimore. They were incredibly gracious to us. They never asked to see membership and accepted credit card/cash. We challenged the two different bartenders (Neil and Caroline) as to who could make them stronger. They than gave us a deck of cards. We sat on the upper deck, overlooking the harbor and played Euchre for hours while they brought us drinks (which were cheaper than other places.)

The Boat Yard Bar & Grill is touristy but likely, so are you. It is a cool place and worth a visit.

All the places I have listed (except Annapolis Yacht Club) are in The Maritime Republic of Eastport
Their official coat of arms:

More unofficial:

One of my favorite places for sailboat racing! A great group of fun people. If you ever attend a sailboat race afterparty, it seems to be law there that a golden retriever must be present.

Read up on MRE's tug-o-war and .05K race, not 5K, rather .05K (the length of the bridge!)

Get on the grounds of the Navel Academy. The Church (Chapel) is really cool.

Crab: The tourist spot will be Cantler's
It is okay, pricey and touristy but that does not mean you should not do it.
Just know that directions to the place are pretty much as follows, "once you think for sure you have gone the wrong way, go just a little further, you are almost there."
In reality, it sits on the end of a winding, dead-end road.
Much easier to arrive by water than it is by land.

Parking:
Being the 4th weekend, I have to believe parking will be an absolute nightmare in Annapolis. Park once for the weekend, plan to walk a lot. Everything I have listed can be walked to if you are already in the historic area.
The capital building is cool.
If you sail, then you know APS is well worth the visit for shopping (in Eastport, just down from The Boat Yard.)

It's worth the experience. Where else you going to find a 6 pound milkshake?

The food is pretty good. The experience is priceless.

I've liked the Middleton Tavern. Contiuously operated since 1750, with patrons like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson.

"The Tavern was frequented by members of the Continental Congress meeting in the State House on such historic occasions as the resignation of General Washington's commission, December 23, 1783, the ratification of the Treaty of Paris ending the Revolutionary War in January 1784, and the Annapolis Convention which laid the groundwork for the Federal Constitution Convention held the following year in Philadelphia.

It is also probable that James Monroe, who knew Middleton as a Virginia delegate to the Continental Congress, visited the Tavern after his election to the Presidency. When President Monroe was received in Annapolis for his stay from May 28-30, 1818, he was greeted by Annapolis Mayor John Randal, who, at the time, was the owner of the Tavern.

In addition, Middleton Tavern was the site of meetings of the Maryland Jockey Club and Free Masons, as well as the renowned Tuesday Club, whose membership was made up of some of the town's most distinguished wits, and which met for the purpose of drinking, smoking, gambling and comradeship."

Overall it was a really fun vacation. The Mrs. and I took a boat tour that took off from Market Square and went through the back bay. I think some of those yachts are bigger than our house! Also did a walking tour of the Naval Academy and went into the chapel. Dinner on Friday night was at McGarvey's (really wanted to eat at the Middleton Tavern but wait was almost an hour). Food was really good even though I got some sort of quick 24 hour stomach bug. Breakfast next morning was at Chick and Ruth's. That place was very cozy to say the least. The scrapple bagel sandwich I had was fantastic. Instead of taking 97 to 895 to 95 home, we decided to do 50 to 301 to Newark and catch 95 north home. That was a nice backway except for all the berkley traffic on the Bay Bridge going east! Is there any back way to avoid the Bay Bridge to catch 50/301? Seeing a parade of GTR's, NSX's and Lambos before the bridge made it up for it though. The Wife and I are most likely going to heading back in Sept/October when it isn't so hot and nasty outside..
