The actual best way to prune Bradford pears. Last week I cut down three fifty footers behind my house. Now I won't have anxiety every time the wind blows about them taking out my power line.
(And yeah, they were big. Had to use a 24" saw to make the stump cuts.)

We share the same feelings about Bradford pears. Be sure to kill the stump because it and any roots near the surface will send up shoots.

Everyone likes a nicely trimmed bush.

I wonder if you can use any of the trimmings to build a canoe?
Got me again, forgot to check the date on the first post.
Wonder how it turned out. I'd like to see pictures from after the trim and now. Especially after the trim. "Does your wife know?" LOL

I'm running into that with the one I cut down this year. Left about 2 feet tall of stump and it's sending it shoots like crazy.
I'm tempted to let it go, but I'm also thinking if i bore it out it would make a cool planter.

I'll take some pics. I think I have a few post trim.
Right now you would never know I trimmed it. These things grow back fast.

I own my own stump grinder. I took it down 12" below grade.

Post trim (both were trimmed to about this point), March 2018

Yep, had them at our last house. Cut/trimmed every 3 years and then it seems they came back better each time. They do look nice for the 3-4 weeks when they are in bloom but they STINK!!!! That and in the fall/winter here in PA, the "fruit" explodes/falls off and makes one heck of a mess. One day I had enough and the Stihl 310 took care of them forever. Some stump grinding and you would never know they were there.
