So recently I discovered a .8 mile 7 corner loop with enjoyable flow, nice elevation changes with roughly 5-10 year old smooth pavement. It's at the end of a development that never happened courtesy of the housing bubble with the nearest home about 1/4 mile from the closest edge of the loop.

So the terrible idea, take a weedwacker, push brooms, grain shovel and leaf blower to clear the loop of some weeds and over growth. Pick up a pair of running $400 Volvo 240s (I know of a few in that price range for sale locally). Recreate some of the more recognizable "taggings" from the Nuremburg ring on the loop. Slap a half dozen go pros onto the 240s and have at it wheel to wheel.

Completely immature, selfish, unsafe and illegal. yet...

When I was a lot younger, and still lived in southern NJ, I did pretty much the same thing with my motorcycle in a new development that got stalled.

I learned how to slide the tail of a street bike on an off camber corner without going down, or having a code brown.

Locked.

The trick to something like this lies in the curbing/runoff.

Build a convincing couple of saw horses to close off the road and who would know that you weren't supposed to be there?

All you need is to control traffic coming in. After that, you keep the cars muffled WAY down and leave the place in better condition than you found it.

You and your friends are very lucky...

We have a road like that in a corporate park locally. Minnesotans know it as the opus loop. Its blown out now but damn it was good before it was overrun. Do it while you can.

There is a turn in a neighborhood near where I work that's nearly a dead ringer for The Corkscrew.

I've contacted the property owner (developer, who has no intent to develop in the foreseeable future; their words) regarding purchase. We've both contacted York county PA regarding zoning options and possibilities (fingers crossed for recreational/commercial). This could get interesting...

Also, I was driving the white Xb in the video haha.

I'd have said nothing except to a few people with shifter karts.

I hate your face... There would never be anything that cool down here in flat Florida. Liek the others have said; some road closed signs and barriers and you're good to go.

yeah, I don't see any way to get any motorsports happening there in a legal fashion. Probably should have been a secret society.

The question will be how many millions of dollars does he want for it. He's already built the road which isn't cheap, and it would suggest he may have already put in some other utilities (water, sewer, etc.) so he has a lot of money sunk into the property.

Yay this is right up the road from me! I will have to think it's going to be way to hard to do it legally without a metric E36 M3 ton of money but good on you for trying.

surprising they weren't all "get off my lawn" for the time being. I inquired about possible use prior to purchase with waivers and insurance riders and carrying insurance that would include property damage, and basically as long as nothing "too loud" came and that they were notified beforehand and it was done during reasonable hours their response was fairly open. If it can be had for a "reasonable" amount though, I'd rather purchase.

Interesting note on the "loop", it's technically at the end of the county road and is not recognized as a county road. Putting a lot into a grey area. I'd rather be working with the property owners opposed to trying to keep something under ground as in those type situations a few people abusing a opportunity can ruin it for everyone. As it currently looks I'll likely have some ability to control and manage use or situational use.

I thought this would be a thread to state terrible ideas that we have daydreamed about.

Like driving a Lotus 7 replica to Alaska through Canada and up the Dalton Highway. Back when I was thinking about someday building one, I though it would be cool if I built one with an IRS to build a secondary suspension for it that was off-road geared. Think a Lotus sand-rail that was front engined. If done right, it may not take long to switch between an off-road setup and a roadrace setup.

The owner is probably going to put up a big fence soon now that they know someone is messing around with it - or they would if they were smart. If I owned it, I wouldn't even want to let someone walk-on it for fear of liability bs. No way in hell are they going to knowingly let you drive around it in any spirited fashion.

Its a wonderful idea in theory but its not feasible in today's society.
