The worst thing about my car is that it has BMW emblems on it. Its a shame that people think this and some people prove them right, as they are really spectacular cars.

Well played sir!

I just bought my first BMW... I feel the slow descent into d-bag land. Ok, not really. In fact I figure I am probably the slowest M5 driver on the planet. My neighborhood speed limit is 20, and I cruise right at that. It amazes me that in the course of 2 blocks at that speed I can accumulate 3-4 cars tailgating me. I even had a neighbor wave her hands at me for driving too slow.

Because you care about what people on internet message boards think of you?

I guess I'm screwed. I have two BMWs (so I'm twice as douchey), a Subaru WRX (so I'm a ricer fanboi flatbrimmer), a Toyota Sequoia (so I'm what is wrong with suburbia), and an old British sportscar (so I'm clearly a snob).

If only I could find a car where nobody would have preconceived perceptions about me when I drive it. Oh, wait. There is no such car.

--

I was being somewhat facetious earlier when I said that Audi drivers are the ultimate douches though. In honesty, I don't judge people by their cars. I judge them by whether they drive like a-holes, yapping on their phones, texting, or whatever. And people do all of those thing in all kinds of cars. I see just as many Priuses or Chargers or Rav4s tailgating or weaving through traffic as I see Evos or e46s or Audis do it, really. And considering that in this area, a late-model BMW is about as common as a Camry, I'd say the great percentage of BMW drivers drive just like everyone else. YMMV.

It's the Jeep Liberty and Land Rover drivers on my commute that seem to do the most tailgating. I do notice a lot of the worst drivers turn at the same places, no matter what they drive. If someone is driving like an asshat, they are probably going to turn on Old Wake Forest if I'm going north, or Peace St if I'm going south. It happens so often that I will watch an shiny happy person, just to see if they turn somewhere else, but at least 95% of the time, they turn off on those streets. Now, I figure if they turn somewhere else, it's because they're lost.

Because categories? Why have different boards, if there isn't a suggested venue for certain types of posts?

It's not worth getting upset over, I agree. But then again, I didn't see anybody getting upset.

All of the "luxury" marques are the common d-bag drivers up here on the rich side of Indy. Mostly BMW's, but we have our fair share of Merc drivers that feel like they own the road and you suck.

It's to the point now, that when I see one of those 2 familiar grilles flying up behind me in traffic, I automatically leave an extra car length on front of me because they'll be so close to me that I have to anticipate the traffic in front for both of us. I'm rarely disappointed and I usually am almost hit daily by one of the two. So, if you want to get butt hurt that there is a disproportional amount of d-bags driving new BMW's and Mercedes on the road AROUND ME, go for it. IT's just the way it is HERE. It may be different in your area. YMMV and all that.

Around here - suburban Milwaukee - you can add Lexus and Infiniti to the list of d-bag driven makes.

I wonder if people who don't signal and text while driving have their own forums where they complain about other drivers too?

We're cult followers of an unloved and hated version.....idk about you, but my favorite thing to do was beat track prepped M3's around autox courses.

FWIW, I just got a chrysler dealership manager demoted yesterday for idiocy.....if you nearly hit my car in its parking spot in a dealership car, only to start yelling obscenities at someone who hasn't done or said anything, expect a phone call to your dealership owner. That one was epic, call in and ask for the manager....ask who drives the silver charger with dealership markings and the idiot answers "Me"......next words are "I'd like to speak with the owner then."

Dude was washing cars when I went by earlier today.....it was like 45* outside.

Honestly I think biker groups are worse then the luxury bunch. They make their own lanes, weave in out of traffic, they don't pick a speed, and speed up and down on the passing lane amongst the various bikers. They are like Diarrhea in my city, they are just all over the place

Spartanburg is home to the US BMW plant and offers a program where the employees can drive BMW's for a fixed price per month. For this reason I expect drivers of new BMW's to drive like automotive narcissists.

Genius sees the 4 or 5 cars in front of me and so after awhile he actually backs off. There was nowhere for either of us to go. We drive a little further, the traffic in front of me moves over and at the same time another lane opens up on the left. I stay in the same lane. Now there is room to my left, there is room to my right. There's room to go around me. This is true for about 5 minutes. BMW guy stays behind me, in fact pretty far behind me For a guy who was tailgating not long ago, I assumed he was in a hurry. Maybe not. I had hoped he would have blown by me as I can always use a guy to attract the cops. I come upon a slower vehicle. I look behind me, I signal, and I start to move out and who comes flying around me exactly at the same time I was pulling around the vehicle in front? Yup, douche bag bmw guy. Then he starts jockeying back and forth and tailgating other people only for all of us to pass him as he was getting off at the next exit. Stay classy guy.
I own a BMW. I don't drive like that. And coincidentally, I had the EXACT same thing happen to me by the driver of a Gran Prix this very morning. Your stereotype is what it is because that's what you want it to be.

you know the old saying … the exception proves the rule (and no I don't really understand it either ... )

just because you don't drive that way doesn't mean that BMW drivers haven't earned they're reputation

Actually most of those folks seem to be OK. The guy I had to deal with definitely didn't work at BMW.
