I was once told that was sometimes so they could fit more rounds into the magazine after removing the spring. I doubt the ammo could even enter the chamber without jamming if there is no spring to properly force it in. Also, if the shot straight, they wouldn't need the extra round or two.
I'm a firm believer in gun control is being able to hit your targeT. oh and having enough of a brain to know how to use it properly.

I believe a warning shot or two is always nice. Two shots to center mass should warn any foe.
Lol! Truth! I live next to an old retired rock quarry, at 1am one night some locals decided to start running 4 wheelers around it. It was driving my dogs nuts my wife had just got home from work, and had to be up for work in 7 hours to go back. Needless to say she wasn't happy. So I went out there and waited near the area I knew they were riding. When they saw my headlights they killed the motors and went silent, no amount of me speaking loudly trying to talk to them could.get them to answer.so I left went back to the house and grabbed my FAL. Pulled up to the gate and shut the truck off and waited. Waited till I could see headlights coming around the corner because of course they went back to riding after I left. Turned the headlights on, and the did the same crap; kill the motor and go quiet. Tried talking to them again, no answer. So my answer was to seat a metal mag and rack the charging handle loudly. Next thing I know I had someone shouting and turning on a flashlight and answering me. Told em "you all know you're trespassing, its 130am and some of us have to.go.to work.early.in the morning. Time to take it to the house, or I call the cops!" Yeah they went home.
Ive seen criminals die in accidents like this. Its hard to watch another life end, but their decisions put them in that situation. It was a crazy experience and could have been a lot worse if they hit inocent people.
