That can't possibly be a good idea.
Any idea what they'll be priced at?
On a related note, my GM dealer got the Hummer-branded Recon e-bikes in, and pretty much every employee has hopped on it and tried to go as fast as possible. I was doing 20mph through the parking lot and went "Wait, I'm in a T-shirt with no helmet in a parking lot. If I wipe out or hit something, it's going to hurt." For the record, those things are $4200, are the size of a bicycle, are pretty heavy, and you have to pedal.
Retail is $995.
I'm a little disappointed these are going through dealer channels. I had assumed they were going to be sold direct - but there's no basis to that, it was a bad assumption. The R&T article does say they'll be in Honda and Acura dealers. If there are stupid dealer markups, it's going to hurt Honda's image pretty badly with the exact demographic they're aiming at.
TDIL what a Motocompacto is... Looks like an instant collectible to me. I kind of want one even though I didn't know it existed thirty seconds ago. 12 miles of range isn't great though.
I contacted two dealers today, one Honda and one Acura, both of whom I had recently bought cars from, and neither had heard of these things until I asked about them.

Do you really want to go 13 miles on one of these things?

I'm pretty sure you'd be more than happy to get off after 12 miles given those ergonomics. It's not really built for all-day comfort.
I live about a mile from a small shopping center. One of these could be great for zipping over to there on the local roads with no shoulder with people driving too fast and not paying attention. I like it!
I was coming at the 12 miles of range from the angle that it would be a neat trick to keep in the back of the car while traveling and pull out and get around in a city for a day, here or there. 12 miles between charges isn't a lot in that context. The reality is that I'm overweight for the little thing and it would 1) get even worse range 2) be uncomfortable and 3) probably break. But fine, ruin the fanatasy.
I'm on the fence about ordering some for our Honda store. In our little valley, 12 miles will just about take you all the way across town and back
In other news- three acura techs out on work comp injuries due to product related accidents. Something about a....race?

Yeah, totally agree here. I'm pretty sure I'm their demographic--grew up riding Honda dirtbikes and playing with mopeds, currently have a Grom and two e-bikes, love love love the original Motocompo. As soon as the dealer tries to hit me with an $800 doc fee on a $995 bike there's no way I'll ever buy one, and I'm pretty sure I'll reflexively hate the brand forever.

People forget your head hits the ground at the same velocity, whether you're going 1mph or 100. Scooter dorks and Harley drivers are particularly ignorant of this fact.
Glad you came to your senses.

Do you realize that you are saying you have the perfect environment for these?
You can get anywhere in town and back on one charge.
And not just because the Ren Faire is in town here, I can see some scooter jousting happening in the near future.

I do, actually. They'd be pretty slick here
