There has only been one Batman origin movie as far as I know.  I havent seen them all, but I'm reading the plots of the ancient ones and none of them seem like origin stories either.  Batman Begins in 2005 is the only one.  Literally every other Batman movie and cartoon (and game even) I have seen starts after his origin story.  What's wrong with telling the story more than once?  Everyone is acting like its super common, but I don't think it is.  None of the games start with the origin story either.

Huh? The 1989 Batman absolutely shows his origin story. And "Batman vs. Superman" doesn't make it part of the story, but they do show it during the opening credits. Hell, even "Joker" shows the death of his parents.

I'm pretty sure he means the whole movie being the origin story instead of a flashback scene.

It sets the tone by starting from a known point, like an orientation for the new adaptation. Also, for some viewers, this will be their first exposure to the Batmaniverse and they may need the backstory.

This.  The interesting part is not the Batman doing Batmanny things, it is the backstory to why Batman got to where he is today, to put his motivations into context.

If I just wanted to see E36 M3 blowing up on screen for no adequately explored reason, I'd go watch an MCU CBM.  Or a Disaster Area concert.

Spider-Man: Homecoming was 100% succesful and didn't go into any of the origin of Spidey.  They just dropped you into the mess that was Pete's life.

More than slightly off-topic, but I've seen stuff online where it's "If you could be any superhero, which would it be?" And people say Spider-Man. Are you insane? Even Spider-Man doesn't want to be Spider-Man. His life sucks. He's always struggling, and failing, to balance his school, work, and social lives and be a hero. His parents are dead, the closest guy to a father that he had died indirectly because of him, he accidentally killed his one girlfriend, he rarely gets any respect from most of his other superhero colleagues, no matter how much good he does J.J Jameson drags his name through the mud, his best friend is usually awful to him, MJ is often portrayed as manipulative or capricious.

Despite all of that, I'd be Spidey.

Who else would I pick, Superman? Be constantly aware of how I am moving through a world of cotton and gauze?

Captain America might be good I guess.

Superman does have a pretty good thing going though. He has a wife, a solid career, he's viewed as a beacon of hope, pretty well loved and respected, he's damn near a god.

That was me after watching the mess that was that last X-Men movie (Phoenix?).  I kept waiting on it to get better, or at least not suck so much..  But I digress, just saw a teaser for The Batman, I think I can get behind their casting choice for Catwoman..devil

Superman in the normal comics is fine, but Supes in pretty much any comic that deals with the future (and many that deal with alternate universes) have him lose his way and/or become a tyrannical despot.

Too much weight on his shoulders for me to want to be him.  Too much power.  Too much responsibility.

I feel like there is a low bar for Batman after Val, George, and Ben. All movies have to establish the psychological wrong of Batman, otherwise they could just invent a new character with a new story.....imagine if they did that....imagine. They could even borrow a character from the comics or even create a new one.....

Why stop at damn near a god? Thor is a literal god.

Because comparatively, Thor's life sucks. A lot of it due to his father. Odin loved taking away all of Thor's powers in the middle of high-stakes fights just to teach him a lesson. The guy he thinks of as his brother tries to kill him a lot too. He went through a rough phase where he was unworthy and couldn't lift Mjolnir, and kicked around the galaxy with no real purpose and got his arm chopped off. Oh, and the time he found out that he and all of Asgard have died and been reborn over and over, so to try and break the cycle he gouged out his own eyes and hung himself from a tree, and then comes back from the dead to find out that his good friends made an evil clone of him that's running around murdering people. Even in the MCU, Thor's life isn't exactly a bundle of laughs. His brother tries to kill him, his mother gets killed in front of him, his father dies, his sister that he didn't know is trying to murder him, his entire homeworld gets blown up (and unlike Supes, he's old enough to remember it), his best friends (Heimdall, Volstag, Hogun) all get murdered, half of his surviving people including Loki, get killed in front of him by Thanos, he whiffs his best chance at stopping Thanos for a revenge shot and then goes into a 5-year slump over it. When Rocket Raccoon, of all people/things, pulls you aside to express concern over your mental and emotional state, you know you're hosed.

I still want a live-action adaptation of Batman Beyond. For those no familiar, Batman Beyond was a killer animated series set in a dystopian cyberpunk future setting where Bruce Wayne was an old man and threw in the towel on being Batman. A teenager ends up stumbling across the Batcave and becomes the new Batman, with Bruce Wayne as a very gruff, grumpy Alfred analog. It was just a really cool, unique series with a largely new rogue's galley and various little callbacks to the original series. Also, despite being for kids, it was a complete horror show. That show gave me a lot of nightmares when I watched it.

I was a bit outside the target demographic when it aired, but I thought the few episodes I managed to see were pretty interesting visually, and they should do more with the story idea.

I mean... they gave us a grumpy old Logan (as opposed to a grumpy eternally 25 Logan)

At least there's background.  Remember Transformers? I thought it was rad, because I knew these characters, knew the history, the conflict.

But if I knew nothing of them beyond "This toy truck is also a robot" why would you enjoy this movie? (ignore the Michael Bay tropes for a minute ) They do crap job of explaining anything.  The good guys are good because they say they're the good guys. I wouldn't know anything going in. And I would barely understand anything coming out.

You can do worse than showing what a Batman is.
