And the answer/qustion(?) is:

what musical artists have managed to have 2 number one record "albums" in charts on both sides of the Atlantic (America and the U.K., simultaneously) in a 1 year period.

I was surprized to find out that neither The Rolling Stones nor Elvis made this VERY short list, and that The Monkees, did.

Just heard on BBC-News.

My favourite Cheers episode, ever. Alex Trebek's facial reactions to Cliff are priceless.

Stones make sense. To have two albums chart in one year, they'd probably have to be released in quick succession. When the stones were releasing albums quickly in the 60s, they weren't selling very many (Only one gold LP in the 60s -- Out of our Heads --). By the time they were selling a lot, they weren't releasing nearly so much.

Also, the #1 slot tends to be dominated by much lighter fare than the Stones. Yeah, something good might get to #1, but it's always been dominated by boy bands and hairdresser favorites.

Elvis is a bit tougher to suss out, but I think the short version is that (a) most of Elvis's LPs didn't do nearly as well as the singles and (b) Elvis wasn't as popular on the other side of the pond as he was here.

And who the hell is Susan Boyle? That name has been cropping up in random places everywhere. From what I can tell she looks kind of like a younger Kate Smith, but that's all I know. Is she an author? A singer? A brothel madam?
