Tivo is recording it right now. The Unforgiven will be on later tonight on Bravo. It's set to record that too.

John Wayne owns the two finest westerns ever made (The Searchers and The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance) but he also made a lot of stinkers...I think Eastwood's work is a little more consistent overall.
Still, no point in arguing. Wayne and Eastwood can both bring my afternoon to a screeching halt when they come on TV.
Eastwood was a grumpy old man 30 years ago. He's awesome!!
BTW, watched Bullitt last night, I heart Steve McQueen.
Eastwood is much more consistent with his work though the Duke is great. McQueen is the king though.
These three are in some of my all time favorite movies.
Coincidentally enough, a spaghetti western movie continuity error occured to me today: Clint chain smoked those skinny cigars throughout every one of those movies, but it wasn't like he could pull his horse over to a convenience store to pick up a new pack whenever he needed another one.... his saddlebags must have been jammed full of cigars and nothing else. :)
I'm not a big western fan but I do like Eastwood's 'spaghetti westerns'. I read something a long time ago about Eastwood early in his career having a helluva time on stage because of the glare from the lights, it made him squint. The guy who did The Good The Bad and The Ugly saw some of his work and decided right then and there it was Eastwood or no one and that he had to squint.

"I'm looking for the owner of that horse. He's blonde, he smokes a cigar, and he's a pig."
And I don't care how long it is...the three-way gunfight rocks.
The Dirty Dozen was on Turner Classic Movies last night. I forgot how great of a movie this was. Add Lee Marvin to the badass list..

Damn straight, and his badassery wasn't acting. Marvin was a sniper with the 4th Marines on Saipan when he was wounded severely enough to be discharged. In a fight with Lee Marvin, Chuck Norris and his chin-fist would beg for mercy.

BLONDIE, YOU SONUFA--wa-ha-wa-ha-waaaaa....
I've watched a Saturday-afternoon Western just about every weekend for several weeks now. (I think that means I'm turning into an old fart. Where's my soup?!)
I started with the Sergio Leone classics with Cwint, but last couple of weeks I've moved to more modern stuff: "All the Pretty Horses" this weekend, and the remake of "3:10 to Yuma" last. The latter, if you haven't seen it, is just about the best western evar--at least until the last half hour, which stinks--and you can catch more than a whiff of Cormac McCarthy's great book in "Horses." Both are definitely worth catching.
