The Grand Tour Sand Job

Anyone watch it yet? Thoughts? To me it was a bit of the same old and  I had a few good laughs. I enjoyed it for what it was and what I expected it to be.

It was fun for what it was, but you can tell they're tired. I don't blame them for quitting. 

I want that Morgan from the very beginning in the worst way.

Just started watching, Hammond is having typical hamster luck.

2:17 of Hammond's car breaking down, he fixes it.  They drive some more.

I did not go into it with much expectation, I guess I wasn't disappointed. 

Maybe I'm too much like James May, but I thought the most interesting bit was the deal with arranging to get the cars off the train. 

Yeah. Just had the feeling they were over it and glad the contract was up. I would have watched it regardless but not the best work.

Also, the commercials made me happy this is over. F U Amazon.

Mine fortunately did not have commercials......it was interesting how they reacted to being in a dry country.....like they weren't going to be able to live thru it.

That whine from Jezza's Jag's supercharger was nutso - had to have an aftermarket reduced pulley on it - that would drive me nuts!

All in all,  a typical 2 hours of the lads.......no new ground broken, nothing new to see or hear. It was interesting to see how these expensive cars fell apart so quickly, but that could have been because of the "modifications" done for the trip.

This one reminded me that I really want to build a "rally raid special" out of... something... for my daily commute. I probably wouldn't use a Jaaaaag or Aston Martin, but something like a Volvo XC70 lifted a little with aggressive tires would be cool. I mean, driving into Boston can be at least as rough as that road they graded with the cultivator and snowmobiles.

Yes the shows are formulaic but they are still one of the best things out there.

Pretty good. The snowmobile bit was ridiculous and entertaining, the river crossing went about as expected, and I liked Hammond's line about a "commendably elaborate suicide" when describing Jeremy driving down that hill. Dunno that it needed to be well over 2 hours long, though.

Definitely. I'm hoping for a massive blowout for the final entry. Something ridiculous, like a mini series or those 90s movies that were every Monday for a month. Like the longest continuous route in the world, from northeast Asia to southwest Africa, or transAmerican tip to tip from just above the Falklands since they probably aren't welcome back there to the North pole. 

I get some of the hate, yea it's repetitive and they've been doing pretty much the same thing for 20 some years, but there's just so much absolute garbage being churned out anymore that it's nice to have their consistency. 

I still enjoy them, from the Grand Tour, I've even gotten my wife to enjoy them and their antics. Even watching the old top gear, and further to the late 80 Jeremy with a superfro top gears. 

I got a kick out of the lost snowmobile suddenly reappearing from the desert.

I'm five years older than Clarkson (and I look it) but he's not aging well...he has to start taking better care of himself.

As others have said, nothing groundbreaking.

It's been a kind of miserable travel blog more than a motor sports show for the past few years, but I've enjoyed them all. 

What the show really did was made me kind of want an F-type coupe. 

Watched it in segments over the last several nights.  It was mostly predictable, but the formula is entertaining.

I'm a bit confused my the musing of some of you guys:  Was this the last "Grand Tour", or are there going to be more?

This was billed as the "penultimate" special. A word I've always believed to mean "next to last". In the most recent season of Oh, Cook (Mays cooking show) he mentioned Mauritania and another locale. So there should be one more coming. 

Speaking of James, Our Man in India was rather good, if short, if you haven't seen it yet. 

There is a Zimbabwe episode coming out later this year.

I believe there is one more that's already filmed, and they are done after that. 

Watched, enjoyed, good, not great.

It isnt one I want to watch multiple times (Bolivia and Mongolia, for example), but they always deliver good shows

Sad to see them go, but it's just sort of getting 'tired'

Also - yes, Clarkson looks rough. When your shirt extends about 8' from your belt buckle it is time to think about your life

And this is coming from a guy who is NOT thin.
