I wouldn't say they are of questionable value, most have pretty clear value. They just seem silly on the surface (without perspective).

No, I just don't look at the surface of everything. Do you work for a marketing firm? Perhaps a political adviser?
E.g. Rock personality study shows how ineffective a personality test is, polarized light study could be used to control insects, phantom scratching useful for skin disease sufferers. Lying study was a useful warning on primarily using college students for studies etc.
