When/if you guys are wondering "Where the heck did that Ethnic Food-Wrap guy go?" in the coming months, here's your answer. The Bride of Burrito and I finally put all of our eggs in one basket and bought a dang house.
It's pretty much still 1974 inside and while a little rough around the edges, it appears to have very solid bones (or so said the inspections).
Oooooh, yeah baby!
Wood paneling, brown shag AND paisley wallpaper! That's like the straight-flush of 1970's key party!
The garage is small, yes, but there is plenty of room downstairs to build a locost...
It's going to be absolutely bizarre to go from a 650sq/ft apartment to 2400sq/ft of ridiculousness, but I am absolutely ready.
congrats! looks really nice---- I'm totally jealous as my house has no room for a pool table. There are very few basements in FL.
Congrats! Looking forward to the house warming party invite! I'll bring my own lampshade :)
Does it come with the '95 Taurus too.
I have never seen wall paneling like that bedroom which looks more like floor paneling than it does wall paneling.
Good thing those pictures have a 2015 copyright of you could convince me that bathroom picture is straight out of 1982.
It does look like a solid house that was never abused. I suspect it was a quiet, clean, neat, older couple.
Lots of potential for sure.
So now we're going to get a Casa De Burrito build thread? Looking forward to that.
I'd do the bedroom and bath, and celebrate the woody goodness of the rest of the house.
That looks very nice! Congrats! I say embrace the 70's-ness of that bar/hangout room and fill it with vintage arcade games and pinball machines.
BTW, if you want some cool standup arcade games, a buddy of mine collects and repairs them:

that house must be related to the TARDIS.. it looks way bigger inside than out
The house has had the same owners since the 70's and was being sold as an estate, so we're guessing that the owner(s) either passed away or moved to an old folks home. At any rate, we came to the same conclusion; it had loving owners and has lived a quiet life for the last 40 years or so. You guys have probably seen enough of me to know that I'm not one to turn down a good project.
This was actually the first house we went and viewed with a realtor. We've been watching the market and keeping MLS numbers of places that we liked in our price range along with some fairly specific criteria for about 3 years (old house/neighborhood, detached garage, no HOA, etc). When we viewed this house we were kinda meh about it. Then we viewed a couple more places in the neighborhood and kinda thought "you know, that first house was actually pretty awesome." It almost missed out because we drew an imaginary East-West boundary across the city and said "No further East than U Street". This place is on Z.
We didn't write the pool table into the contract, but since the house was being sold "As-Is", we assume it will still be there when we move in. I do happen to have the real-deal Arkanoid cabinet that would look at home in the basement, but getting it down there sounds like a pretty daunting task.
There's a very strong possibility of a build thread, or perhaps even a little YouTube channel. My wife just got a Canon 5D Mark II, so we can take some needlessly high quality video.
Where in town did you end up?
In reply to java230:
'Bout 10th and Z. So, a block North of Mill Plain and 3 blocks West of Grand. Close to my favorite coffee house and the local homebrew shop . We are currently on 6th and U, so it should be a pretty easy move... not as easy as that one time in Eugene when we moved from 18th and Lincoln to 18th and Madison, but pretty easy nonetheless.
Remodel that bath and call it good for the duration. Let wifey handle the rest, I'd live in the Rec Room.

Congrats - nice looking HQ. When is that picture from? I didn't think the sun came out in WA until May.

Hey, the sun comes out sometimes. I mean, it's only been raining for the last 17 days, but it does happen (on occasion between May and September).
PHeller, nope. Those are off of the online listing.
fasted58, why hang out in the rec room when you can chill in style in the murder room?
It's only a little creepy at dusk.

Wait, z st north of mill plain, do you back up to the cemetery?

Congrats on the house. That worked out quite well for the bride and myself 23 years ago.

I was about to tell you how I dated a girl that lived on that street, but then I realized it was over 20 years ago and I can't even remember her name. Now I am drinking a room temperature glass of bourbon...
Very nice. Dig that rec room.
