Thanks y'all

Figure out when #1 will be TDC on the firing stroke (so that the valves are closed.) Turn crank so #1 is at BDC-ish, feed clean 1/4" nylon rope into cylinder. Slowly turn crank so that piston compresses the rope against the cyl head and the closed valves.
Torque bolt to your heart's content. Remove rope by going back to BDC-ish and pulling out of cyl
That's much better than my idea of putting a spark plug with too much reach in one of the cylinders, then turning the crank until the piston hits the plug.

Done it on... 2? 3? Engines now? All still running nicely.
Are there any MMA fighters that don't look like meth dealers who sample their own product?
I recognize that I am not the target demographic. But at best, most look like they've cleaned up for their court date.

I'm gonna go with "No." It takes a certain mindset to choose to make a living beating people as near death as you can get them before the ref breaks it up. Of course, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. I'm guessing not many of these guys are Rhodes Scholars.
Weren't we just talking about horror fright floor jacks? I'm looking for one. Which one do I want? There are a lot of slightly different options. Lightweight appeals to me, but then I think "lightweight" equals "not strong". If I have a new jack, I won't have to move my old jack so often, so could be steel. Long reach? Probably a good thing. Capacity? Prolly 3 tons 'cause more is always better.

Highly-paid marketing consultants and focus groups.
The people who name prescription drugs are similar but even more highly paid.
Are hood spacers for keeping a windshield defogged GRM approved? E36 heater currently dead and I'd like to continue driving through the cooler months coming up.
Rebuilding an Edelbrock carb. Got those little tiny gaskets at the base of the venturi boosters, inside the body of the carb so it's hard to get a scraper.
They are buried in there and I dont want it to be a pain next time I rebuild it. Are there tricks to get the gaskets to release? Grease the gaskets? Other things?

I'll take a swing at this. If you are talking about raising the hood at the base of the windshield it might help sitting still. While moving, I think that might be a high pressure area and the air would go from the windshield to under the hood?
In reply to NermalSnert (Forum Supporter) :
Interesting - thanks for the response. I couldn't find anyone else that has done it, at least to this specific car. It's pretty dry here anyway so I'll just keep it tucked away on the days there is moisture in the air.
In reply to Mr_Asa :
Can you soak it in something that will soften the gaskets without eating the carb?
In reply to 1988RedT2 :
Oh yeah, its soaking now, then has a date with my sonic cleaner. I'm less worried about getting the existing stuff off and more concerned with making sure that future me doesn't have to go through the trouble.
Out of the following winter tires, which would you choose for a FWD vehicle in an area that gets a little snow but ices frequently:
BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK WS90
CONTINENTAL VIKINGCONTACT 7
MICHELIN X-ICE SNOW SUV
BRIDGESTONE BLIZZAK DM-V2
GENERAL ALTIMAX ARCTIC 12
The WS90s are highly rated and easy to find but I'm open to the others as well.
The Michelin X-Ice Snows are the only ones that have a treadwear warranty (40k miles). They are load range XL though.

Or if they were, they aren't any more
What is the difference between Normal Operating Temp and Heat Soaked? When I run down the highway at 80 for hours on end, my car is at Normal Operating Temp. But when I go to the track it becomes "Heat Soaked".

This is anecdote, but I was happy with Blizzak WS80 (presumably the predecessor to WS90?) on a FWD minivan a few years ago. We have a long driveway with a steepish (10% grade for 150 feet or so) hill near the beginning. The first winter after we bought the place we had three 4-6" snow falls. The van couldn't make it up the hill after the snow packed down (so basically ice) without getting a running start and hitting the bottom of the hill faster than I would like and lots of wheel spin and sliding side-to-side as it got to the top. After the 2nd snow I bought a set of WS80s from Tire Rack. When the 3rd snow came, I could drive right up the hill at a reasonable speed no problem.

Presumably, running at highway speeds (steady cruise, no hard acceleration) for prolonged periods is within the design parameters for the engine and the cooling system. During track use (high speeds, full throttle acceleration) the amount of heat generated exceeds the cooling system's ability to adequately disperse it.

Several female MMA fighters fit the bill: Gina Carino, Paige Vanzandt. There was also a male Japanese fighter a decade ago that was a model AND a singer in Japan...can't remember the guys name

Allegedly, Chap-Stick will work to keep carb gaskets from sticking.
