You know what I'm talking about. It's that time of year, the time we're in right now. The period between Christmas and New Years Eve. December 26 through December 30. It's the Taint of the year. T'aint Christmas, T'aint New Years. Nothing seems to get done, the weather is invariably bad in most of the country, and it just feels like the part of the year where you "run the gas out of the lawnmower", metaphorically speaking, for next year.
I can't wait for 2014. How about you?
thought you were referring to sumthin' else

I get paid on January 1st, so I generally agree with ya!
Otherwise, just work as usual in the lab. We had our family fun. We'll get drunk tomorrow evening. It's -6ºF outside (F = berkeleying freezing) and my bus to work arrives in 12 minutes. Just like any other winter day!
The new years hoopla is nonsense. It's just another freakin day. New years resolutions are for the weak as they usually fail at their resolutions anyways. I'm back at work sidekicking peoples souls. Taint chit!
Meh. I am on day 11 of my 17 day vacation so things could be worse. On the downside, the 8 month old is getting over her first bad cold and we are pretty much stuck at home due to that and everyone else being out of town. Football and video games have helped when the baby is sleeping tho.

on the contrary, i went from a pile of 40-60 year old parts, scrap, 2 new springs, a trip to tractor supply, and a 24 foot long tube of 2x4x.125 steel to a rolling frame for my plymouth on saturday in about 5 hours. all that figuring and drawing i did for 5 weeks made things go fast. so some things get done this time of year. i even sat the body on it yesterday and started cutting out the hacked in floorpans.
taking the family to amish country (blech, horse crap on the roads) today to use up some restaurant gift certificates that i won at an event earlier in the month.
Working and making money as usual. The best part is the lack of traffic.

I always called this Frazzle Week. Nobody is doing any work, not much is getting done. I'm spending my time getting prepared for my new job starting 1/6. Yes, there is very little traffic.
There is no off day in the hospital ER.

I thought this was going to be about a guy that I work with.
Two major holidays within days of each other, lots of vacation time being taken, forced holidays in some cases, etc. Even if you want to work, or have to work, there's no denying that a lot of the country seems to be on idle. Or at least slow motion.
We ended up traveling to her parents' in SC, then to my parents' in NY, and even though there's projects up the wazoo I need to be working on at OUR house, it's all on hold until we get back tomorrow. For a guy like me that hates to be chilling his heels, it's frustrating. 2014 will signal a return to normalcy- work.
Happy T'aint!

You do have a point there. I have a bunch of stuff I would love to do on the days I do have off. As much as I love hanging out with family, sitting around talking about the same old stuff does get tiring. I did get to spend a half a day wiring the winch on the Samurai and then trying to get it stuck. It wasn't all bad.
My business partner hates the holidays. He's one of those guys that loves a schedule and hates anything that changes it. Monday-Friday 8am to 4:30pm. I'm surprised he doesn't work 7 days a week. Hell, he hasn't taken a vacation in 8 years.

Yup. The drive in was nice this morning. Hopefully the drive home will be good as well.
In reality, this is the first time in over a decade I've been at work between Christmas and New Year's.

The Amish give gift certificates?
I jokingly call this week the "Christmas hangover".
It seems like the people who were artificially nice for the Christmas season are relieved to go back to being the same old jackholes.
this week has been a big build up at work. Borgata had DJs Tiesto and Guetta the past two days and tomorrow is the NYE celebration. I just finished day 5 of an 8 day straight run
