Tradition is stupid.  Certainly, doing stupid things just for tradition's sake is stupid.

Etiquette, on the other hand, is the lubrication that oils the gearbox of society.

That's simply not true.  Alcoholics will drink anything with alcohol in it.  I've seen a man drink pure medical grade ethanol from a 55-gallon drum.

I like vodka.  I love love gin.   Martinis are delicious (sans olive juice, of course)

A proper martini is Gin.  Stirred, not shaken.

And I like neither cheeky

A proper martini is gin and shaken, because I too believe that there should be ice crystals floating in it, but please change my mind with a lively debate about stirring vs shaken. Vodka is for making mixed drinks that don't taste like vodka, I have never seen anybody drink Vodka straight that had a choice. I like none of these things because fine whiskey is my bag.

I've been thinking about this all day- Metallica needs to retire. They haven't made a 100% solid album since black album, and they've been straight out awful since Hetfield blew out his voice and then got sober.

Gin is always the right answer.

A proper martini starts with a splash of gin in a shaker with ice. 3 shakes, just enough to coat the ice, then dump the excess gin out. Add vodka and stir, because stirring doesn't melt the ice like shaking does, and who likes a watery drink? Pour through strainer into chilled glass.

But who am I to judge? "Just hand me the bottle of crown and a straw" was my default drink order when I still drank.

A proper martini starts with a shot glass, a lime, some salt, and a bottle of tequila.

As a die hard fan of St. Anger, I can say I agree with you. They can still play as well and fast as ever, but the music lacks the anger and drive of the early stuff.

I sort of agree, they are fast becoming a brand and not a band. Cyanide was a good song as was Suicide and Redemption of of Death Magnetic, i dont really like anything off the newest and St Anger was terrible, ive recorded far better on a Zoom q3 than anything off that album.

And I think they're (Beatles) good writers, they just make everything sound the same.

The Beatles

Bruce Springsteen

Neil Young

Joni Mitchell

All good song writers, terrible musicians. Feel free to add to my list

I would revise that a bit.  Legendary songwriters probably more accurate.  True, Springsteen and Young's singing voices are kind of in the mold of Bob Dylan (i.e. annoying), but they make it work.

This thread is responsible for me getting re-acquainted with the music of Neil Young.  In spite of his being a Canuck, he's made some kick-ass music in a fairly lengthy career.  I'm listening to "Powderfinger" (at high volume) for the third time, and I'm considering cue-ing up my vinyl copy of "Everybody Knows this is Nowhere." laugh

Look out, Mama, there's a white boat comin' up the river.

Powderfinger is a great song

Quoted as the gospel truth.  Why drink rubbing alcohol?  I accidentally bought a bottle of Ukrainian potato vodka once, and it changed my thinking about shots of vodka completely.

Dunkin donuts may be the worst donuts made.

Similarly, starbucks “coffee” is absolutely the worst coffee made. Caribou is a close 2nd for worst coffee.

No outrage. Chain donuts almost universally suck.

Yet many speak fondly of traditional blues music from the 50s. It depends on what tradition and to whom it belongs to.
