I think the title of this thread needs to be changed to 'Things I'm gonna keep picking up from the side of the road'.

A friend of mine used to whistle the theme song to that show at me whenever he'd see my truck bed full of random scrap metal.

So yesterday I decided to cruise around for a little while looking for scrap and things for future projects.

Cons: didn't find any

Pros: found this instead

Based on the title, I figured this thread was about a "date" gone bad.  Glad to see it's about something else.

I've mentioned this before. Years ago I thought it strange that, during my commute,  I saw so many bungie cords on the road. Was it really that many, or it just seemed like it because you never think of the times when you don't see one?  Well I decided to test it, and started picking them up. My kids learned of it and it became a game every time they were in the car. If we saw one, we'd pick it up. And soon started asking, did you find any today, Dad? Before long I had amassed so many bungie cords I was running out of places to stash them and reluctantly had to stop. The answer was, yes, I really was seeing that many bungie cords on the road.

I do a fair amount of bicycle road riding and I'm always looking for things I don't want to run over... like tools.  I've lost count of how many tools I've stopped to pick up.  I have a theory on where 10mm sockets go - people forget them in an engine bay and then go for a test drive and whatever is left in the engine bay often rattles out onto the ground. I've found a few Snap-On 10mm sockets on the side of the road.

Living in the suburbs, we also have routine scrappers.  I will usually put items out a few days early to give them a chance to grab them before trash day. It's rare stuff hangs around for more than a day.

As for doing my own collecting, I try not to... I'm out of room.

Neighborhood around here has an annual curbside bill pickup day and it's been nicknamed "Trashmas"
