Yeah I'm thinking a 60 series Land Cruiser is at the top of my list at the moment, though out where I live a jeep of some variant maybe easier to find. If I went with a full sized Jeep the Wagoneer would be easiest to find I'm sure but I would have to strip that awful fake wood paneling off the sides lol.
Come to think of it I think there is a place local that normally gets in all the retired forestry rigs and the normally have a few Cherokees and the like. Anyone purchase something like this, how well do the forest service rigs normally get maintained?
Oh also I just thought of something I would like something that I could get a sturdy enough platform on the roof for me to sit on to take some photos in the field. Or something similar so I can get a higher point of view.

oh, what about a bronco? they can be found with anything from a 300 i6 to a 351 and 3 or 4 speed manual to AOD. they have also come in carbed, speed density (tbi i think too) and maf/port injected varieties. a late 80's/ early 90s with the 302 and aod would probably do pretty well. the roof would probably be sturdy enough to sit on, or if you pick the year right, you could pull the top off all together.

ooo, bronco, but i will say finding one with a 300/6 5spd combo may be difficult. I have that drivetrain in the blue beast and i think i would rather have an auto, but the engine is fine.

I don't know why you dould get a FSJ over a Land Cruiser. You'd have to upgrade the FSJ significantly to just equal the Land Cruiser stock. Same gas mileage... m3h transmissions, m3h quadratrac... bodies that rust faster than toyotas and interior parts made of very hard bits of playdough.
Sure they're cool.. but no advantage.
Biggest advantage out where I live would be ease of finding one. The 60 series is still top of my list at the moment it will just be locating one within a range that I can go see or that are in areas where I know someone that can check it out for me.
Land cruisers are nice, but the only one I ever drove was more of a pig than the Dodge would be.
Mileage, lots of seats, and aftermarket hop-up screams 7.3L powerstroke Excursion. I hate SUVs because of what they stand for, but that is an SUV done right. Its just a chip, exhuast and intake away from 450 hp and 750 tq, will easily get 20+ mpg, and its a beefy setup.
