The news came over the radio Stevie Ray Vaughn had died in a helicopter crash, and as I type this the SCCA ad is flashing and it says it all WE MISS YOU.

I was at a vintage sports car race in Aspen, Colorado riding in the back of a pickup truck with a bunch of other corner workers when we heard the announcement on the radio.
Then the station played Crossfire.
I was working in Daytona Beach at RML Automotive. I will not forget this. My boss Rick and I were both big fans, and unlike Rick, I had seen Stevie Ray live in 1986.

Same. Driving up US-23 in my '85 Accord.
The first two concerts I ever attended were to see SRV.
I was going to see him with Jeff Beck later that summer and he up and gets killed in a helicopter crash.
Man could that guy play.
Friend of mine saw him on 6th St in Austin when he was nobody. Told me he saw a guy who was the second coming of Hendrix, yeah right. Turns out, pretty much was.
Saw him live in Richmond at The Theater Formerly Known as The Mosque not too long before his demise. Heck of a show.
Never saw him live. But my favorite version of Texas Flood is this:
