I must say, I could never live with less than 400 feet of space, but this guy is ingenious. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lg9qnWg9kak

I think it's pretty cool. I have a big house, but I often wonder if it's just a reason to have more stuff...I remember when I was in college, all my worldly possessions would fit in my car and I was living in a 13' x 13' dorm room; life was a lot simpler that way.
wow. we have 800 square feet for two people, and we get along pretty well without all of that crazy crap.
It is wicked cool though.
Very cool, but seeing as how I have 5 people living in 1100 square feet, I think he needs to down size. If he can get it down to 220 square feet I might be impressed.
When my wife and I first lived together, it was in a 2 car garage converted into an appartment. It held us, 2 cats, 3 bikes, and all our stuff. Now, I have a similar sized garage full of 2 cars and really really really important (just in case she reads this) car stuff, with three more vehicles and two trailers parked outside and a shed for the bikes etc. How times change.
That's pretty cool, but hardly groundbreaking. A Murphy bed is like what? 150 years old design? It is interesting the way he has it all put together, but if that's city living, gimme the country any day.
I could do it... it is actually pretty cool.. but I have to wonder how it would work with more than one person?
if he were married and wanted to watch Tele while his wife wanted a drink?

Yeah, but do all of you share the same kitchen, or do you each have your own? You only get to divide your total by 5 if there are absolutely no common areas.
I'd say it's fairly groundbreaking. Yes, a Murphy bed has been done before. But there's more than just a Murphy bed here. The sliding walls that allow rooms to collapse is pretty clever.
I'm not sure where the bathroom is. Communal for the building, perhaps?
I liked that quite a bit. I got my ass evicted in January, and I can tell you all the crap we have in this world is exactly that - and I never needed that 600sq ft apt. I rented for over 60k this past decade. Just wonder how expensive that would be as a pod on a vacant city lot - you can get a vacant lot in D.C. for 20k and up, so then how much to build this, mostly by yourself? Oh yeah, I'm finally making money again, so I could attempt this.
