This might be old news to some of you but I just stumbled upon it while reading another article. WTF!

'Anti-Propaganda' Ban Repealed, Freeing State Dept. To Direct Its Broadcasting Arm At American Citizens

For decades, a so-called anti-propaganda law prevented the U.S. government's mammoth broadcasting arm from delivering programming to American audiences. But on July 2, that came silently to an end with the implementation of a new reform passed in January. The result: an unleashing of thousands of hours per week of government-funded radio and TV programs for domestic U.S. consumption in a reform initially criticized as a green light for U.S. domestic propaganda efforts.

I wonder if they will call it the Ministry of Enlightenment and Propaganda?

Yawn. If all the Govt. aims at its citizens is propaganda, then I'd call it good.

So people are worried that three months ago the State Dept was allowed to legally distribute domestic propaganda? Hasn't this been going on for, like, ever?

I sadly have to agree. I don't know that to believe anymore on the news or on the net.

When you consider that the borders have pretty much become the equivalent of checkpoint Charlie this new development should not surprise anyone.

It might not be obvious from within, but a lot of the world looking from the outside of the fishbowl is wondering WTF? is going on in there?

How soon before Americans are not allowed to leave the country at all "For their own safety"?

This is interesting..

Someone finds obscure news site that references some very odd rule change in congress that no real news outlet has covered since 2012 and because it's about propaganda assumes that the fact noone has covered it or cares is because they are being lied to...

Let the crazy circular argument commence..

The government is now distributing propaganda?

Well, they are WAY behind a bunch of "news" and radio shows! (and online etc.)

If you think propaganda is only coming from the government, you are being very naive.

Yup. Plus the advertisements for military recruiting are great propaganda pieces as well. I love the not-so-subtle messages: "Join the Army/Navy/Airforce/Marines. You'll spend your time delivering aid to 3rd world countries. No. Really. You won't go into situations where you get shot at and shoot back at people who look like civilians. We promise!"

I agree with you to am extent. However, from my own personal experience in Iraq, I spent far more time helping the locals than fighting them.

It appears the ruling has to do mainly with Voice of America and Radio Free Europe, which very few people in the US have probably ever listened to anyway.
