Lithia driver dies after crashing into 11-foot alligator on roadway, deputies say
That's some Jurassic Park E36 M3 right there
Reminds me of an article I once read pointing out that there were once dinosaurs that were basically just alligators the size of limousines, and imagining what the world would be like if they had survived to this day. In short, some areas of the world would need to be closed off with giant fences and turned into more safe and less profitable versions of Jurassic Park for our safety. And occasionally the military may need to be called in to deal with a Deinosuchus escape.
There are several places here in SC where it is not uncommon to see a dead gator on the side of the road. At a guess, they come up onto the road because it's warm.
I run over one with my '87 GTI coming back from PBIR back in the late 90's. I thought I had destroyed the car, but it was small and went right under the car.
I was always told to watch out for road gators.. I didn't know they could be deadly. At least the gator died too.
With all the safety nonsense on cars, airbags etc.? At least he wasn't on a motorcycle, but the results are the results.
Wait a minute. The name of the driver sounds familiar.
Edit: found more info about the driver. Not someone I knew.

I think if dinosaurs had survived, because the giant rock missed the earth 65 million years ago not only would there be no humans, but the dinosaurs would have evolved into intelligent beings and blown up the earth millions of years ago. Humans have pretty much proven a species can go from Homo Erectus & simple stone tools to atomic weapons in less than a million years.

Local news in rural Wisconsin is often... Well, it is lacking. A minimum 5 minutes is being spent on the Green Bay Packers, no matter the time of year or if anything happened. I remember a story once about these road gators... It went on and on and on about the dangers of them, and you could see the dead look in the reporters eyes as she came to the realization that "I went to journalism school, to report on shredded tires that are causing dozens of minor accidents every year".
In reply to mtn :
Not to beat the proverbial dead horse, but it's not just "minor accidents." According to AAA, in the period between 2011-2014, road debris was a factor in a total of more than 200,000 police-reported crashes and resulted in a total of approximately 39,000 injuries and 500 deaths.

if he had been on a cycle, all he would have done is piss off the gator and then become lunch.

C'mon, man! The article clearly states that the incident occurred a little after 1:00 am. Clearly not lunchtime. Let's go with midnight snack!

Fourth Meal, in Taco Bell parlance.

Ironically, Johns Hopkins is a Hospital in Maryland. It is the center for American Covid reaearch, unless I am mistaken.

Quoting this post because the Maryland flag makes any post better.
Also celebrating that there are no 'gators here.

I lived in Lithia 2005-2010. Back before they widened Boyette Road. Never hit a gator though.

Well then.
I stand corrected.
What fool let an alligator loose in Maryland?
