Seriously, propose the schedule I laid out for you......it is quite simple and fair. Each shift gets either friday or sat-sun off every other week. Otherwise tell them to cram it up their ass and look for another job.
I like that one, but it involves getting a lot more people on board. Someone actually did try to propose it to the higher ups earlier, and they didn't want to listen. The day shift folks don't have a problem. My only real issue is getting a full day off on the weekend. The office folks made up the schedule and saw that our team was "off" on Sundays, but didn't stop and realize that our Saturday carries over until 6am on Sunday, and we'll want to sleep after that. What I'm trying to propose makes the smallest change possible that gives everyone a full day off on the weekend, which is what this schedule was supposed to do in the first place.
I'm going to go ahead and let my bosses know that I've gotten 2/3 of the people it would affect to agree to it. The three of us who the new schedule is better for have all agreed that we are fine letting the other crew pick which block of days they would prefer to work. We just want a full day off on the weekend. The guy who it will inconvenience will get to decide whether he would prefer one day of soccer and one day with his girl, or two full days with his girl.

tell "the guy who it will inconvenience" that he should be less worried about someone else beating up those walls and more worried about not being a selfish prick.
Weekends are overrated (Says the guy who hasn't had a regular weekend day off in 11 years).
I work 7:30-6 M-F, then 7:30-4 every third Saturday. I was considering going to work at a large plant here in SC which shall remain nameless, I was in the final cut, duking it out with about 12 other people for 8 positions which gave me a real good chance of getting on with them and got to looking hard at the schedule, it was a swing shift with 3 on 4 off then 4 on 3 off and all the days were 12 hours.
I would never have seen my kid. I'd have had to learn how to sleep during the day. I would have had to work 2 weeks straight over the Thanksgiving holidays. I withdrew my name from consideration for that reason. Sometimes you have to make adjustments for the greater good.
Okay. Got resolved. The guy immediately up the chain of command went to bat for us with the higher ups making the decisions. Basically told him, "If I were them, I'd be berkeleying pissed."
Boss called me up to clarify, "You arent looking for a specific block of days just trying to change the schedule to get a weekend day off?"
"Yup. All three of us on the my crew are happy to let the other guys pick their block of days."
"That seems more than reasonable."
It got straitened out.
best scheadule I ever had... when I was a video editor, I was allowed to work whatever scheadule I wanted as long as I did 40. I did 2 thirteens and a fourteen and then had 4 days off.. Fri, sat, sun, and mon. This also allowed me to totally miss Rush hour through Philly and let me keep living at the shore as I commuted back and forth from OCNJ to Hatboro PA
