So I am making "ham and bean soup."
My recipe calls for nothern beans, celery, carrots and well ham... Since my onion already looks like left overs should I pick up some spuds?

Sadly, I'm actually allergic to potatoes (along with other deadly nightshades, such as eggplant and tomato). And yes, I miss french fries like you cannot imagine.
Fortunately, that has forced me to experiment with other tubers. Rutabagas (aka swedes) have the texture of a potato but the flavor of a mild onion - I bet they'd be awesome in your soup! Turnips are a little earthier, but just as tasty.
You can also try sweet potatoes, but if you're not a fan of them, yams add color & flavor without the sweet.
So I decided on no potatoes... but added some left over bacon which will reinforce the smoke flavor of the ham.. and got my yellow onion to finish my mirepiox and added some fresh coarsely chopped parsley and green onion to add some freshness... man my house smells great....
So the moral of the story is: if you are feeling down and got the cabin fever make some soup and have some friends over...
Well if you decide upon potatoes then the question becomes -
are you ready?
Sitting down?
One potato, two potato, three potato, four?
Five potato, six potato, seven potato, more?
