TIL that my V60 has a fiberglass transverse leaf spring rear suspension.
So do Mercedes vans! Transverse in the front, normal layout in the rear.

Well, there's that, but 5/32", I know exactly what that is - which just happens to be about 4mm.
7/32" ? Got it.
6/32"? No, that's 3/16"
Peabody said:6/32.
Grrr
I get it, that's 3/16". But for certain things (like most wear items), 32nds of an inch have become a unit unto themselves. Reducing the fraction actually just confuses the issue.

I bet that is because that is what the tool reads. In 32nds.
And with todays customers the actual measurement doesn't mean anything to them anyway. Either the car needs them or it does not. Everything else is just noise.
Streetwiseguy said:So, just under 2mm in proper numbers.
It is a more impressive joke if you get the math right.
All of the semantics over pad thickness numbers ignores that some jurisdictions (looking at you PA) require these numbers be reported in 1/32 increments on the inspection reports. Actual intelligence is not permitted.

Yeah. Hit the googles and selected the decimel equivalent, not the metric conversion.
Oopsie.

The electronic inspection software we used where I used to work (AutoServe) took 32nds of an inch. All commonly available brake pad gauges are metric.
Where I work now, we use Auto Vitals, an altogether less clunky software package, and it can be set up however you want. Tread depth is 32nds and brake pad thickness is mm.

TIL about Rax. Never heard of them before. Apparently there is one not too far from me. Doubt I'll ever try it.
I missed the whole darn week and just this morning learned that Peter Hickman is the new King of the Mountain, with an avg lap of over 136..... the video doesn't look real.
I ordered coal for the next winter, I get 40# bags. Was $283/ton, this year it's $474/ton. TIL from the supplier that it's difficult to find as coal is shipped overseas.

Yep. Because Ukraine and Russia are huge coal producers. Reading & Northern Railroad, the so-called "Road of Anthracite", said they saw a massive upswing in Pennsylvania anthracite traffic last year, with a lot of the new traffic going overseas, because Ukrainian and Russian coal are basically off the market, so everyone turned to the US. Although most of the anthracite that the R&N moves is used for metallurgical purposes, with only a small portion for energy production and a tiny percentage for home heating.

Might be time to switch to pellets? I just ordered 4 ton, delivered, for $1205.
In reply to Peabody :
Yes, just to augment the furnace. It's in the basement, heat rises and all the dust is down there. I did wood for years, but you have to handle it so many times. I can't fit one season of wood in the basement, I have two seasons of coal there when loaded and a still useful basement. Wood heat fluctuates a lot, coal I can go away for the weekend and it's still good when I return.
Thought about pellets, but is they get wet or damp they're unusable.

I can't speak from personal firsthand experience, but a ton of my coworkers had wood pellet stoves and they seemed like a hassle. All I ever heard was "Oh, this store stopped carrying the one brand, and the new brand doesn't feed in my pellet stove", "This store has a brand that works with my stove but they leave them outside and they're always wet", "I tried a new brand, they don't burn right and I'm cleaning the stove out all the time because of all the ash", "There's a shortage, none of the stores in the area can get any pellets at all."
Today I learned Hammer head worms are a thing
I'm not much of a carpenter, so for the wooden screen door and a few window screens, I used these small plate type fasteners. Went to buy more and TIL they are illegal to sell; according to the hardware store guy.
What? OK, don't put them in your pockets, but illegal?

tbh sounds like someone just saying things- I had similar once in looking for lawnmower parts, dude told me this great big sob story about EPA regulations cracking down on him and blah blah Obama in ~2019, wouldn't even stop despite me showing the EPA regulation sticker from 2009. Ended up just buying parts off Amazon.
Not T.I.L., but L.N.I.L.(Last Night I Learned). Woke up at 6am, played with the puppy and was at the shop by 8am to finish up a rollbar for customers Corvette. Grabbed an Apple fritter and coffee on the way out of the house. I'll call that breakfast. Finished up at the shop and was back home by 2pm. Grabbed a bottle of water and ate 1/2 a slice of cold pizza before heading out to do yard work. Finished up around 8pm and ran over the neighbors house to see his yard landscaping progress. Before leaving I had 2 beers. No big deal as it was hot out and dusty cutting grass. Came back in the house around 8:30pm and rather than cooking, we decided to just eat leftover pizza for dinner. I headed to grab a shower and poured a tall glass of Sangria(12oz). Nothing to quench thirst like a glass of sweet sangria! After getting changed, I came out to get dinner ready and refilled my glass of Sangria. While pizza is heating in the oven, I need to go sit on the couch.
Now I will readily admit to not being much of a drinker. A few beers with pizza or wings or one while sitting outside after dinner, but a case of beer will last a month in our house.
Well, LNIL that I cannot mix beer and Sangria on an empty stomach! I haven't been "drunk" in years. Many, many years as I don't like the feel of not having all of my faculties. It wasn't fun and I will spare all of you the details, but I have very limited memory of the hours of 9:30-m to 2:30am this morning. That crap won't be happening again I can assure you. I had to apologize to Jen this morning for taking care of me in my drunken state last night. I owe her one!
To those of you who enjoy that feeling, WOW, I can't imagine! People do crap like that every weekend for fun? Nope, that's 5 hours of my life I won't get back.
Sorry for the long post, but that's my PSA to the group.
