I love the original top gun.
Top Gun Maverick looks both visually awesome and both terrible as a movie. I'll be spending money to see it regardless because I love planes nearly as much as I love cars.
What do you guys think

I’ll see it. Amusing that Tom has been acting so long they don’t have to digitally age him for a role 30 years in the making.
Also, the top gun drinking game is 1 sip for each callsign and 2 sips for each scene with aviators.
I suggest having at least one person who is dedicated to just counting.
Example:
"Ghost Rider, who do we have up there?"
"Cougar and Merlin and Maverick and Goose"
"Damnit, Maverick and Goose"
Yep that's 7.
Lets be clear, the first one was not really that good of a "movie", it was quite visually spectacular though (this one appears to be the same).
As mentioned in the Bullet thread, there is a huge difference in a movie when a car guy makes a car movie, and when a plane guy makes a plane movie. Now, Tom is not the director, but you can be damn sure he has influence in how it was shot. Heck, he even has good areal scenes in his Sci-fi movies.
Some things I noticed:
- Some sort of pressure suit, so maybe U2? (or maybe some sort of next gen thing)
- A quick shot of a Mustang (p51). There is a chance this is actually Toms Mustang, which I am told he is not allowed to fly much because of insurance concerns (for the movies he is doing, not his ability). Curious to see how that works in. I would say, maybe he is an air racer, but I have heard nothing about shooting at Reno (the only place they race Mustangs and the like)
I expect GOOD aerial scenes, period, and I will be happy.
P.S. It's the same director as Oblivion (good sci-fi movie btw) which did have some good aerial scenes (also a Cruise movie).
I was already on board, then I heard the music. AND THEN I SAW THE F-14 AT THE END!!
I know it will be terrible. I don't care. I'll be there opening night.

That's an excellent summary as far as I'm concerned. I might even buy one of these just to be properly attired:
Appleseed said:True fact: Tome Cruise is to short to be allowed to fly the F-14. That always cheers me up.
That's surprising. I know Cruise is a little dude, but fighter pilots in general (much like racing drivers) tend to run on the small side.

Well... he is required to ride a motorcycle and run at some point in all his movies... it's a thing.
While I suppose I should hate the trend of remaking 80’s films for 80’s kids, I totally eat it up. Will definitely watch.

Yep. Hence my comment. He does it in nearly every movie. It’s hilarious and it’s a great part of a Tom cruise movie drinking game.

So part of the movie plot is how they had to go steal one from Iran? :)

Where are you seeing an F14? (I am not sure there are any flying anymore other than Iran)
All I see are single and dual seat SuperHornets.

At the very end, after the logo. There's a little tag at the end that shows a Tomcat.
I'm assuming it's either a flashback or in the movie universe there will be a secret stash of them that were never decomissioned.
Top Gun is my favorite movie and I saw it recently in an IMAX theater and it really holds up. I can't wait to see the new one
